Thinking of a place to go this summer? Do you need a break from your tedious life? Yellowstone is the perfect getaway place to soothe your troubled soul. Complete with attractions for the whole family, you won't be disappointed.
1. Old Faithful
This is the biggest attraction in the park. People come from countries far and wide just to see this geyser do its thing. More specifically, Old Faithful’s thing happens to be erupting about 17 times a day. These eruptions of water are 204 degrees on average. They spew anywhere from 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of water 130 feet in the air. If that’s not exciting, I don’t know what is.
2. Hot Springs
These little geothermal pools are nothing short of gorgeous. In these fragile thermal areas, visitors can safely view the colorful hues of the pools.
3. Fishing
Yellowstone is home to many species of fish, eleven of which are native to the area. Fishing is a huge recreational attraction and is central to the culture of the park.
4. Other wildlife
Yellowstone is the perfect place to encounter bears, bobcats, mountain goats, elk, moose, bison, mountain lions, and many other mammals. While you may want to get up close and personal with the wildlife, please do not put them in your car. It is actually advised that you give them some space to be wild.
5. Bragging rights
If you go to Yellowstone, you get to brag to all of your friends and family that you went to the first national park in America, which opened in 1872.
6. Selfie Opportunities
The possibilities are endless. There are tons, and I mean tons, of beautiful places to snap photos. It’s the perfect occasion to take cool nature photos to beef up your Instagram or other social media accounts. Your friends and followers will probably start to think that you’re cooler than you actually are. Isn’t that the goal of social media anyways?
7. Jokes
What did the father buffalo say when his son went off to college? “Bi son.” You’ll either get some laughs or one big, giant eye roll from telling that one. There is also a lake by the name of Fire Hole Lake. I’ll let you use your imagination on the whole Fire Hole thing.
8. Road trip
Seriously, it’s the perfect excuse for a road trip. Pack up your friends or family and get ready for a good time. If it’s going to be a particularly long drive for you, make sure you bring some books on tape and stock up on your favorite snacks. “I love to be grumpy on a road trip!” -Said no one ever. So do whatever you need to do to keep everyone happy.
9. Human history
There is an abundance of not only geological history, but a history of the peoples of the United States. Before and after the arrival of the Europeans in America, many people used this park as a hunting ground, route of transportation, and home.
10. Family bonding
There’s nothing like a cool trip to Yellowstone to make new family memories. For years, you’ll look back at old photos or think of the goofy hat your dad insisted upon wearing and laugh.
11. Get off your phone and experience life
Yup, you heard me. There’s not a whole lot of service in Yellowstone, but it is the perfect opportunity to breathe out the stress and breathe in the earth. As hippie-ish as it sounds, everyone needs to destress and disconnect for a little while. Remember the days before modern technology? Some don’t. For the younger folks, they might not even know what our world was like without it. Take time to educate them and remind yourself of the beauty of nature and simplicity of life.
