Winter is coming, which means it's time for holiday music, curling up by the fire with hot cocoa, and bundling up. While many people enjoy the wintertime because of the holidays, or the serenity of waking up to a snow-covered lawn, I hate it. I'd rather live in a nice, warm, sunny paradise, but unfortunately, I'm stuck in Nebraska. Here are four reasons why winter is the worst season.
1. The snow.
Snow is wet, heavy, and cold. Trudging through the snow on my way to class is my own personal hell. Sure, snow is pretty when it's falling and I'm indoors, but if I have to leave the sanctity of my dorm to go outside while it's snowing, it's the most hideous thing in the universe.
Not only that, but where there's snow, there's ice which means slipping and sliding all over the place. Falling down because of ice and landing on the sidewalk is one thing, but slipping on ice and falling face first into a snow drift? Not only is it embarrassing, now you're wet, cold, and have to dig your way out of three or more feet of snow. Snow also makes driving the worst, having to deal with people who don't know how to drive in snow, slipping on black ice, and getting stuck. The snow turns Nebraska from a boring prairie into Hoth.
2. It's freezing.
Even if there's no snow on the ground, it still gets unbearably cold during the winter. It can get so cold that they cancel school, which is what happened two years while I was in high school. You might be thinking, "No school? What teenager would ever complain about that?" It's not the fact that I was mad about school being canceled (though I kinda was), it's the fact that it's so cold it's too dangerous to be outside for longer than 15 minutes. Once it gets that cold, we might as well be living in Antarctica (or Hoth).
3. Christmas music.
I celebrate Christmas, but I hate Christmas music. I hate listening to it, I hate playing in orchestra, I hate singing it in my classes. Christmas carols are so repetitive, like how many versions of "Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer" can there be? How are we going to edge up "Jingle Bells" this year? Listening to Christmas music at work is never fun. At least the customers can leave, but me? I have to stay there till closing listening to our singing decorations. Don't get me wrong, I love my job. I hate the music.
4. Seasonal depression.
I suffer from clinical depression. I also suffer from seasonal depression so when winter hits it's time for Double Depression. The days are short, the night is long, the air is cold. All I wanna do is sleep away my life until spring comes.
Winter sucks. I can't wait for it to get warm again.
