There's an age-old myth that living with your best friend is completely and totally terrible, and that you're going to end up hating the person by the third month of living with them -- that's completely false. Living with your best friend is the best. Personally, it has been the best experience of my life thus far.
1. You two are virtually the same person.
You two love to do other same things, and your drinking habits are the same. You love to go out to the same parties and have the same friends. You love to eat the same foods, and you're more than likely curled in bed watching the same cheesy movie and crying and then laughing at how lame you two are being.
2. You're both into the same music.
Same music = dance parties while you two get ready to have a night out on the town. There's nothing better than that.
3. She's right outside your bedroom door.
Your boyfriend just broke up with you. You need an opinion about the outfit you're wearing out to the bar later. You want to go annoy someone, but everyone else is too far, so she's your only option -- your best friend is there to save the day (literally on some days).
4. She doubles as your mom, a shoulder to cry on, and a pal to go out with.
You got too drunk last night? Your roommate is there to hand-deliver Sonic breakfast burritos to your room as you can barely get out of bed. The boy you like was at the bar with another girl? She's there to make sure you have a fun night to make him jealous. She does it all.
5. More than likely, you're in one class together -- study buddy.
If you're lucky enough to have a roommate that shares the same major and minor as yourself, you're going to be sharing the same amount of work and classwork, because you're both in the same classes. You're going to have the perfect study partner, and more than likely she'll be in your group as well -- no leaving for group meetings!
6. She doesn't judge you.
You want to walk around the apartment with no clothes on with your comforter wrapped around you? Go ahead. She'll probably laugh and proceed to take a Snapchat of you and put it on her MyStory to show the world how ridiculous you look -- but it's all in good fun.
7. Her closet is your closet.
When it comes to going out, class, or going out on a date, their closet is just a little extension of your closet. Anything is free game.
8. Movie marathons.
You're having a lazy Sunday. You want to watch "Magic Mike XXL" and don't want to be judged for screaming out "Yaaaas," and your best friend is just across the hall. You're going to ask if she's willing to watch the movie with you and, more than likely, she's going to be just as excited to watch it as you are.
9. You have a guaranteed date to dinner.
You're hungry, but no one wants to go out to eat with you, or don't like the place that you're choosing to go to eat -- your best friend is there to make sure that you're not going to look like a loser and eat by yourself.
10. There is no such thing as "my food" in the fridge.
Food shopping for the apartment with your best friend as your roommate is fantastic. You both just buy a lot of groceries, and eat whatever you feel like you want. Unless you eat the last of something; that's always a big no-no.
11. Most importantly, you two are inseparable, which is why you chose to live with each other.
Living with my best friend has been the absolute best experience in my college career. My roommate and I have been through a lot of life events together, supported each other, and cheered each other on through it all. I wouldn't be the same person today if it wasn't for having her as my roommate through my tough times.
Thanks for being my person.
