When it comes to family, everything is instantly complicated. Immediate family is tolerable. But when it comes to extended family, it is just very irritating. I only see them three to four times a year, stop pretending like you’re my best friend. There are many reasons why I dislike family gatherings, but there are a few things that irritate me the most.
1. They just want to know your business so they can gossip.
It’s my life. Quit trying know out everything as if it’s your business so you can gossip about it later during your afternoon tea sessions. What I do, who I talk to, where I go is not your business so please stop trying to act like you’re my mom. Thank you.
2. “What are your grades like?”
That’s the very first question I am always asked whenever I see my uncle. I am never asked “how are you,” he just jumps straight into what my grades are. Umm… That’s not your concern and I am probably doing better than your kids, so please stop pretending like you genuinely care when all you care about is comparing me to your kids.
3. OMG You Gained (or Lost) Weight.
Okay so I might’ve put on a few pounds of maybe lost a few pounds, but no matter what, either change is always mentioned. Even when I have looked the same for months, someone always claims that I've lost weight or gained weight. MY BODY WEIGHT CHANGES, SO WHAT?? Stop making me feel self conscious about myself for no reason.
4. "You curse?"
I accidentally dropped the F-bomb and suddenly I’m the worst person on the planet. Why is it so shocking? It’s as if you didn’t know that I curse on a daily basis. You do it to, so please calm down. It’s not the end of the world.
