11 Reasons To Work At A Daycare

I've worked at a local daycare for the past two years, and it has easily been one of my favorite jobs to date. While I've always wanted to work with kids I didn't think that early childhood education was for me, so I decided to take on a different path. Fortunately for me, I was still able to work with kids. After the past two years, I could hardly imagine what life would be like without working there. Even if you're still on the fence, there are so many reasons why you should take the plunge into the life of a daycare worker.

1. The connection with the kids.

There's nothing quite like having a classroom full of kids yell out your name and run out to tackle you with the biggest hugs.

2. The connections with the families.

The kids aren't the only ones you build connections with. Parents come in with wild stories about their child's weekend all the time, and the longer you're around the more you'll hear about their adventures.

3. It could lead to future babysitting gigs.

Rather than finding a sitter through family friends, parents tend to ask different staff members if they'd like to come watch their child. You already know them and get along with the child, it's a way to make a little extra money and spend time with some of your favorite kids.

4. If you or the kids have an off day, you get to go home.

Not every day is sunshine and smiles. It's nice to know that you get to go home to your bed rather than deal with the kiddos for the rest of the night.

5. You acquire a new perspective on life.

Rarely, if ever, do we see the world the same way as we did when we were kids. Kids see the world in the most pure ways, and they aren't afraid to vocalize what they're thinking. Working with them can even influence the way you view the world and people around you.

6. The hours are flexible.

Daycares know that you have a lot going on during school, so there's no need to fret. You can schedule yourself to work around the different things you have going on. Plus, if you aren't an early morning person you can always come in later!

7. You're just as excited for summer as the kids are.

During the summer you can do so much more with the kids than before. From walks to field trips to water days, you're able to switch things up and will have just as much fun as the kids you work with.

8. Kids say and do some of the funniest things.

Kids have no filter whatsoever, so they are more than likely to say and do things that you would never even dream of.

9. You get to see the kids grow before your eyes.

You see so many firsts working with kids, but the hardest things to see are usually the lasts. Over the time you work at a center you grow close to the kids and their families. After seeing them so often for so long, it's strange to imagine them going to school anywhere else.

10. You live vicariously through all of the parents.

Baby fever is real, especially at a daycare. While you may not be ready to have children of your own, you sure can love your kiddos as if they're yours.

11. You get to make a difference.

Working with kids is truly something special. No two are the same, and each of them have so much to do in their lives. It's amazing to take on such an important role in their development.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
