Having a best friend that's a guy is probably the best thing that can happen to a girl. They're always there to tell you how it is and to protect you, no matter how many times you have to tell your mom that you two aren't dating. Even though you have the occasional heated argument about whether you're going to watch "Gossip Girl" or "Sons of Anarchy," he's the one person you can count on to tell you a terrible, corny joke when you need cheering up. Even when he forces you to rate another girl on how hot she is, he's someone who truly cares about you in a totally non-romantic way and for that, we owe him everything. Here's why we should all thank our best guy friends.

1. He listens when you gossip.

He really doesn't care that your friend Becky was flirting with your boyfriend at a party, but he's going to be there to nod his head and agree with you that Becky is the absolute worst when you tell him about it.

2. He tells you what that guy is really thinking.

There's no one better to ask for advice about boys other than a boy. He's gonna be there to tell you exactly what this guy you've been talking to is thinking. He can pick out the good ones from the bad ones.

3. He lets you know when those jeans really do make you look fat.

He might not come right out and say it, but he'll straight up tell you to change when you're wearing something unflattering. And every girl needs a friend like that.

4. He's always up for an adventure.

When you're bored, he's the first one who will gladly take a spontaneous road trip, go test-drive fancy cars or check out a new restaurant with you.

5. He listens to you complain on and on.

He knows that there are a lot worse things going on rather than you losing your favorite purse, but he'll sit there and listen when you're talking about it for two hours.

6. He is the ultimate wingman.

When you're out and see a cute boy, he's the first one to go and start talking you up like it's his job.

7. He will scare off the creepy guys who hit on you.

When you two are out and some creep comes up and starts being weird toward you, all you have to do is give him one look and he will immediately come over and pretend to be your boyfriend.

8. He trusts your judgment.

He lets you drive his car, pick out his clothes and fix his hair without any questions.

9. He forces you to be productive.

He knows you have a paper due, so he'll steal your phone and lock you in a room until you finish it. He'll also force you to get up and do something when you've been in bed for 17 hours.

10. He's always honest with you.

He will be blunt when you're being grumpy, unreasonable, and sassy. He'll let you know when you're being completely crazy and always keep you in check.
