10 Reasons Why Main Street Middletown Is The Best

In the state of Connecticut, there are around 170 towns and cities -- the majority of which are very unique and different. Middletown, CT is pretty much right towards the middle of the state. While just about every town has a Main Street, Middletown’s is one of the very best.

1. Car/Motorcycle shows

In June and August, Main Street gets closed off and hosts Cruise Night and Motorcycle Mania where antique, vintage, cool looking motorcycles and cars come from all over the state, and sometimes even from out of state. People can walk up and down the street looking at everything, along with eating from all of the food trucks.

2. Holiday on Main

Every year, Main Street starts off the holiday season with a walk down Main Street, a couple of tree lightings, and even Santa! Not only that, but every weekend leading up until Christmas, there are activities for families to participate in.

3. Breakfast/Coffee places

Down Main Street, there are many different places to grab a coffee and hang out with some friends to catch up over a quick breakfast or lunch. The restaurants range from the common Dunkin Donuts, Perk on Main, which can be found in a few different towns in CT, and even places special to Middletown such as Brew Bakers.

4. Italian restaurants

There are literally about 10 different Italian restaurants just on Main Street alone. Some are more expensive and fancier than others, but still, who doesn’t love pasta or pizza? Amici Italian Grill, First and Last Tavern, Esca Restaurant and Wine Bar, Luce, Mondo and Tuscany Grill to name just a few. Is one too crowded one night? The others are just a five-minute walking distance away, all on the same street.

5. International Dining

Not interested in one of the many Italian restaurants Main Street has to offer? Don’t worry because there are numerous other types of dining places. Main Street has: 3 different Mexican places, 3 Japanese restaurants, 4 Thai dining places and there’s still more. Moonlight Sushi Bar and Grill is a hibachi place too which is always such a fun time!

6. Dessert places

After eating dinner at one of the many restaurants on Main Street, you could stop and get dessert. There is Froyo of Middletown, Cherry Berry (also froyo), Tschudin Chocolates, NoRA Cupcakes (that stands for North of Rapallo Ave. There is no Nora) and the new 0degree Thai Ice Cream. Both froyo places are unique, NoRA cupcakes are HUGE and delicious, and the new Thai Ice Cream is out of this world!

7. Unique Bars In Middletown

Two special bars unique to Middletown are Eli Cannon’s Tap Room and The Hop Knot. Both places are known for their unique beers and selections. Today, Eli’s has 36 beers on tap and Hop Knot with 26. Their beers change all of the time and they have specials changing frequently. Eli Cannon’s has cool outdoor seating with sand, and also allows guests to write on the walls around them. The Hop Knot is also cool because just about everything on their menu is made with pretzels!

8. Main Street Market

In the middle of Main Street, there is a shopping center called Main Street Market. Inside is where Froyo of Middletown is located, along with many other stores. New England Emporium is another great place to grab food on Main Street located in the market. Besides the food, there are clothing stores of local business owners such as First Twelve clothing and Dance Outfitters. There are also little boutiques as well.

9. Safety

One of Middletown’s fire departments, the police station and even the Hospital (which technically isn’t Main Street but you can walk down Main Street to get to it) are all on the same street! It’s nice knowing all of these places to keep us safe are all in the same area.

And yes, our fire trucks here are yellow, not red.

10. Fun

Main Street alone in Middletown has multiple different things to do for fun besides eating even though that’s great. There is a roller skating rink where you can go in for public skating at certain times along with birthday parties. There is a newer place called The Board Room where you can pay $5 to play so many different types of board games, new and old all day long. If you’re looking to just buy different toys, Amato’s Toy and Hobby toy store has just what you need.

Take a walk down Main Street Middletown, CT. There are so many things to do and see, go check it out!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
