Grandparents are special. They're the only people that get called "cute" by people that are younger than them. I'm lucky enough to have two grandparents that are still around to talk to on the phone, see on holidays, and make me happy. Here's why grandparents are just, simply, the best.
1. They can drive you nuts without making you mad.
A grandparent will often drive you crazy. They may make a comment about your shorts being too short. They may not realize how busy you are and give you the 'silent treatment' for not calling. However, as much as they grind your gears, it's impossible to be angry at them. You understand that sometimes they may not understand things you say or do because they were our age in such a different time. You realize that they give you so much and have done so much for you that they have the right to push your buttons a little!
2. They make you proud of your heritage.
Grandparents, at least in the United States, will always be closer to your heritage than you are. So, they do whatever they can to pass that culture down to you. You know your heritage's music, its history, and how yummy the food is, thanks to Grandma and Grandpa.
3. They always greet you with a crisp $20 in-hand.
Now, it's not that us college kids are greedy, but it's no secret that we're probably broke! Thank goodness we can always count on our grandparents to donate to our personal funds when we need it most! Grandparents are always the most generous with Christmas and birthday presents, too. We really appreciate the financial help we get from our elderly BFFs.
4. They've got all the stories.
Hearing the perspective of a grandparent is something remarkable. Things were a lot different when they were youngsters. They'll tell you all about how candy used to cost a penny, or about how the milk man used to leave bottles on their doorstep. They also show no mercy when telling all about your parent's biggest mistakes or most embarrassing moments. These stories are ones we will never forget.
5. They'll never be able to put how much they love us into words.
We mean a lot to our grandparents. We are their children's children- that's pretty incredible. They watched our parents grow, and now they get to watch our parents watch us grow. It really is beautiful, how a grandparent loves a grandchild. We are the most precious thing of all to them.
6. We will never be able to put how much we love them into words.
Grandparents are amazing. There's really no other way to put it. They're our heroes, our friends, our biggest supporters, and our favorite people. We will never have a chance to repay our grandparents for all they've done for us. The only way you can show a grandparent how much they mean to you is by loving them with all your heart. Spend time with them, tell them how much you love them, and remember to thank them as sincerely as you can.
Grandparents are the biggest blessing anyone can have.
