10 Reasons To Look Forward To Fall Semester

As summer comes to an end, there is an influx of bittersweet emotions about going back to school. Some people are looking forward to the start of next semester while others dread the thought of returning back to days full of classes. I for one could not be more excited for fall semester and here’s why:

1. Socials and date functions

Who doesn’t love getting dressed up for a social or date function? Whether you’re getting all dolled up for downtown or putting on crazy clothes for a weird-themed social, it’s always so fun to pick out outfits for these events. Dressing up isn’t the only fun part. Socials and date functions are great ways to meet new people and just have a good time with those people you already know.

2. Everyone’s back in town

One of the worst parts of the summer is not being able to see all of your friends every day. People live in different states, are working at camp, or are traveling and it’s hard to make plans with everyone. The start of the school year is so exciting because you finally get to see everyone you didn’t get to see for three months.

3. Homecoming week

Homecoming week is one of my personal favorite times of the year. A week full of themed parties, school spirit, and meeting people in the fraternity or sorority you're paired with – what could be better?

4. Gator Growl

Yes I know, this is part of homecoming week. But Gator Growl is a whole other event. Everyone and their mothers come together to see the comedians and artists perform. I’m not kidding. Flavet field is filled with students, alumni, families, and friends. The vibe is amazing, the artists are amazing, and of course, the food trucks are amazing as well.

5. New people

With a new year comes new people. This is the time to become friends with people you weren’t friends with before, whether it’s freshmen, people who you know of but were never actually friends with, or even just become closer with people you already know.

6. Recruitment

The beginning of fall semester means one thing in the Greek world: rush. This is the time to bring in PNMs and welcome in a new pledge class. Everyone looks forward to getting new members year round. Can’t wait to meet all the babies! PC 15 we're ready for you.

7. Big/little

After recruitment, the next most exciting thing to happen in Greek life during the fall semester is big little. About halfway through the semester is the day every girl anxiously waits for: big little reveal. The girls of the newest pledge class finally get their bigs and the rest of the family gets to welcome them in after weeks of secretly hinting who their big is.

8. Halloween

Halloween in college isn’t like Halloween as a kid. Halloween isn’t just one night here; it’s a whole week. That means you get to wear at least three different costumes, and who doesn’t love dressing up?

9. Road trips

Road trips are basically a weekend getaway, but much more fun and hectic. These road trips are usually for away football games, meaning dressing up in orange and blue, tailgates, and cheering for our school to beat our opponents.

10. Football season

Last, but most definitely not least, is football season. There is nothing I miss more about the school year than game days. Waking up super early is no big deal when you know you’re doing it for football. Game days are all about tailgates, wearing as many orange and blue accessories and face tattoos as possible, cheering on the Gators with 88,000 of your closest friends, game day naps, and of course, Chipotle.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
