7 Reasons Why Every Girl Needs A Group Of Guy Friends In Her Life

Growing up, I always had more male friends than female friends. I was "one of the guys," and I loved it. As a result of the wonderful guys I grew up around, I have learned to eat like a pig, I realized that being "girly and sophisticated" isn't always necessary, and I know what it's like to spend a day hanging out with the boys, doing absolutely nothing but video games (ok, I suck at them, but I'll cheer everyone else on) and watch funny youtube videos.

While I absolutely love my girlfriends as well (shoutout to you all, I don't know what I'd do without you), the truth of the matter is that I have times every now and then when I just need the homeboys.

Here's why you can never go wrong with having a friend group filled with testosterone:

  1. They tell it like it is: All girls, including myself, have a tendency to try and sugarcoat the truth sometimes, especially when it comes to girl friends we’re close to. We’ll tell them that the puke-green dress they’re wearing is absolutely adorable, the weird guy they’re into is cute and that no, they haven’t put on more weight. With guy friends, however, they’re never afraid to tell you the truth. They will be completely honest with you: they’ll tell you when they think the guy you’re into is a complete jerk, they’ll tell you when you need to calm down and stop b*tching, and they'll be there to keep you grounded when you go a little psycho.
  2. They’ll always be there for you: The guys you are closest to in your life, they will almost always be the most loyal people. I know that the epitome of a perfect best friend, personally, is my guy friends. They’re the ones who I can go to at any time, day or night, and can always count on them to help me out.
  3. You never have to worry about being the one who eats “too much”: Girls are always self-conscious about how we look. Infact, half the time, we discuss diets and how we want to lose weight to look good in that brand new crop top we couldn’t resist buying. Guys, however, do not care. When you’re with the boys, you never have to worry that you’ll be judged for eating too much, because chances are, they’ll be eating three times as much as you.
  4. You get a viewpoint from the opposite sex: Wondering what that one cutie is thinking about you? Can't tell if he's flirting or being friendly? Boys are confusing creatures, but the benefit of having a male friend is that you can somewhat understand what goes on in their minds, and maybe get some insight.
  5. You can talk to them about everything: I talk to my guy friends about everything. I talk to them about family, I talk to them about school, I obsess over boys and I even complain to them about my period (*insert them cringing and groaning somewhere far away*).
  6. They’re trustworthy: I'm not saying that girl friends are not trustworthy, but the thing about your homeboys is that, most likely, they don't even care enough about your secret to go tell other people. They won't go gossip about what you tell them, they won't pull a girl move and just tell their best friend even though they said they wouldn't tell a soul - the boys will take your scandalous secrets to the grave.
  7. You'll be the first to know about anything romance-related: That's right. As the resident female, the guys will go to you first for advice about girls. Trust me when I say that knowing that you're the first person to hear about a crush will definitely be an ego-boost. So get ready to bring out your creeper side, stalk the girl on social media, and tell your boy whether you approve of their new love interest.

So here's to my guy friends. Stay awesome guys, and thank you guys for... well, for being you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
