The World Needs People Like Us

Don't let that light of your heart dim and become selfish

To the peers that are always criticizing because they care about people who might not care about her — “you care too much that’s your weakness” — let me tell you something. You are not weak for caring; in fact, it makes you stronger. You care, you give too much and sometimes you're not getting anything. However, it makes us satisfied that at least you tried and that you are not afraid that there’s a slight chance that people won’t even care. Don’t you dare give a little just because you won’t get anything back.

What are you going to do with accumulating all the love and care that you have to offer? You never know how you impact someone's life by showing that you care. It could be in a hug or an “are you alright?”, you never know if you are the only one that cares for that person. Be proud that you have positive feelings and that your heart doesn’t have an armor made of ice around it, be pleased that you have a beautiful heart. Flaunt how caring you are towards the world.

I’m really proud of how I am, how sensitive I am to people’s needs. Yes, I get scolded sometimes because I care a lot and I try a lot because that’s how I am. I've gotten hurt a lot but that didn't stop me from caring and appreciating others. Don't let that light of your heart dim and become selfish. I’ve felt loneliness; I’ve felt the coldness of the world and I promised to myself that I would never make someone feel like people made me feel.

Let's not forget that people like us might be taken for granted and it hurts so badly because we will never understand that if we are doing good to them how can they not want your care? It is really difficult for us when this happens. I always think it's because we care so intensely that they don't know how to handle it. Maybe they never experience people like us and they might get a little intimidated, but no! There is nothing wrong with you. The way I see it is like this: if you keep giving objects to someone, they only have two hands and, eventually, everything will fall to the floor because they can't hold more. Some will come back with something efficient that helps accumulate and appreciate what you give to them and some are going to leave.

People like us don’t bargain with care but we offer it as complimentary because it makes us feel like we are being useful. It makes us feel that we contribute something valuable to others. Caring grows from the bottom of our hearts. It just flows in our veins — the world needs people like us, I know that in some way we will reap everything we’ve sowed.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
