Since August 6, we have been dazzled by the athleticism of the participants in the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. They have swam, ran and flipped their way to victory while we have all watched from the comfort of our own couches…
…eating a bag of chips…
…petting our cat…
We assume that the athletes are in their prime 20s and only competing in their first or second Olympics; however, the ages of some participants will not only shock you but maybe motivate you to grab the carrots instead of the chips while watching the remainder of the games.
Simone Biles, 19
4'8" powerhouse Biles has taken the world by storm as arguably the best gymnast to step on the olympic stage, and get this she is only 19, not even twenty, still a teenager.
Shang Chunsong, 20
While watching the Final Five clinch gold, we had to also watch a few other routines, most of us thought was this one was being preformed by a 12-year-old. However Chinese frontrunner Shang Chunsong is a very solid twenty years old.
Katie Ledecky, 19
Once again, another wildly successful 19-year-old who finished the 800m freestyle a full seven seconds faster than her next best competitor. I mean I finished my burger a lot faster than the rest of my friends today...
Joseph Schooling, 21
Schooling represents Singapore at a pretty ripe age of 21, this picture (2008) just goes to show the age difference between the first and second place finishers of the 100m butterfly.
Michael Phelps, 31 and Ryan Lochte, 32
This dynamic duo is still putting up a fight, and in Phelps' case absolutely crushing it, for team USA. Will we see them again in their mid-thirties? Or will they be buying motorcycles and fancy cars while going through a mid-life crisis?
Oksana Chusovitina, 41
This Uzbek gymnast competed in her seventh Olympic games this year in Rio at the impressive age of 41. For the past 24 years she has proved to have the determination that not many others have. So don't ever think you're too old, too out of shape or not good enough to do anything; you've got plenty of time.
Sydney McLaughlin, 16
Happy birthday to this 17-year-old as she is the youngest U.S. Track Olympian since 1972.
