What's that laughter from the other room? Oh I hear it right now--the sound of laughter, most likely caused from a funny Instagram post. The post is probably about being single, or drinking wine, or cute puppies, but who knows? Oh wait, your phone buzzed because you were tagged in that Instagram post now too? Yup, she tagged you. Need a bottle of wine for tonight to cry away your sorrows? Oh no worries, your roommate has got it covered because she’s currently in a wine tasting spree and knows every kind of Cabernet Sauvignon and has lists of recommendations. It’s just all natural.
You're 20 feet from each other most of the day, you sleep with just walls separating you and you can basically tell who's home by either the smell of perfume, or the smell of food being made in the kitchen. You take bites of their sandwiches, try to make them laugh while they are gargling mouthwash, and totally try to convince each other that you will get a text back from that guy, who usually never texts back. Yup, all signs of living with your best friends--and that's just the beginning.
Earlier this month, I officially moved in with three of my best friends. I say this now, but it is weird we all get along as well as we do, being that we all have different personalities. It works though, I swear. The four of us separate, but are not limited, to the following categories: the thinker, the go-getter, the free spirit, and the dreamer.
At first, I was nervous. "Why?" You might be asking. Well, you never know what you are going to get when you put the four of those personalities into a blender, blend it all up and put them within walking distance of each other. Sounds scary, but there really has been no issue.
There are so many benefits to living with your best friends. You have a built-in support system the minute you get home from a long day of work and running around like crazy. They turn simple things like grocery shopping, or cleaning the apartment into a fun, crazy adventure. There are no boring moments and that is something to be thankful for.
These are the people you can tell your deepest of secrets to—the ones who, no matter what, will always be there for you (even if you’ve eaten the last of their tortilla chips or ice cream). You can be serious, yet act so silly at the same time.
You often joke about how those people will be at your wedding, or standing next you for that matter, but you really have no doubt that it is all true. After meeting and living with these people, you couldn’t imagine your friendship going anywhere for a very long time (that includes post-graduation blues).
The times to act silly are great, but when you need a real heart to heart, you know your best friends/roommates will be there no matter what. Regardless if this is at 3 a.m., or a drunk Saturday night, eating chips and dip and opening another bottle of wine. It’s just instinct once you live together. You always have a shoulder to cry on and a person to hug and cuddle with when you need them.
It is sometime strange how people come from all different paths of life, but can still click, and live a happy, quirky life together. Living with your best friends just means that you will have lifelong friends that will forever be there for you. It makes sense a thinker, a go-getter, a free spirit, and a dreamer can all get together and make it work, because you each carry a bit of each other in your hearts, and for that, you should be forever grateful.
