You The Real MVP, Mom G

For making the house run and reminding us of the little things.

You The Real MVP, Mom G

How do I even begin to express my gratitude to a person who does more for us than we sometimes even realize? We don't just call you "Mom" because you prepare the weekly menu or remind us to clean up after ourselves, but because you're there for us like any of our real moms would be. Even though we don't tell you nearly enough, we truly are thankful for everything that you do, Mom Ginny.

Thank you for your patience. I know it's not always easy to be under the same roof as 48 college girls all the time. I know trying to feed 250 girls two meals a day, five days a week can be difficult and exhausting. I know constantly hearing, "Mom, when are we going to have fried chicken?" probably makes you want to pull your hair out sometimes, but even in those times you are still patient with all of us.

Thank you for your encouragement. Where would we be without your constant support? Whether it's praying over our specific prayer requests or just daily reminders to relax and not let a stressful week overwhelm us, you're always there for whatever we need. Your couch is open when we need someone to talk to, and you make sure to remind us of what's really important in life. I'm thankful that we have a house mom who encourages our chapter to make sure we live out our faith above all other things.

Thank you for your attention to the "little things." I can see how much you truly care for our chapter through the amount of attention you give to small details. You always have a fresh pot of coffee brewed before 7 so all the caffeine addicts can function in the morning. You make sure Katherine has alternative food to eat on pizza days. You help us with our Pinterest projects and baking experiments. You understand the importance of having mini corn dogs and mac n' cheese for lunch at least once a month. It may not seem like a big deal to most, but to us all the small things you do make a big difference.

So here's to you, Mom Ginny. I know we don't always say it, but we're beyond thankful to have a house mom who goes above and beyond in everything she does for our chapter.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
