THE REAL AND DEFINITIVE THREE THINGS YOU NEED FOR COLLEGE

With the semester right around the corner, I decided, why not make a list of things you need to bring to school, and like anything, it's best to pack light.

THE REAL AND DEFINITIVE THREE THINGS YOU NEED FOR COLLEGE.

There are thousands upon thousands of articles out there that try and help an unknowing, adolescent, freshly graduated millennial prepare for the ever-enduring roller coaster that we call college. But what do you really need? What are these other websites not telling you? Well here you go; this is the definitive list of absolute necessities to bring to college.

ONE: THREE GOOD PAIRS OF SHOES

Something that unsuspecting students never realize when you first enter college, is that you walk, EVERYWHERE. I cannot emphasize enough how important a comfortable pair of sneakers are when you walk to class, walk to get food, walk to your friends rooms, walk to parties, walk to the library, walk to go relax outside, walk to buy new batteries for your Xbox controller, walk up and down the stairs to do laundry, walk to the gym, walk to meetings, walk to school sponsored events, walk to interviews, see my point? Why do I say three pairs, you ask? Because there are three occasions where comfortable shoes are essential. First; a pair of sneakers for the gym and casual clothing. Second; a pair of dress shoes for interviews, presentations, job fairs, and other important occasions. Third; a pair of all around shoes that will serve as your “go to” pair; something perfect for parties, class, or just staying in and studying. Trust me on this one; life is a whole lot better when it’s lived blister-free.

TWO: AN OPEN MIND

You hear it all the time; “college is for experimenting”, but what does that really mean? You’re probably thinking to yourself: “But Hunter, I know what that means, in college I’m going to try new foods and take classes in subjects I’ve never been interested in before but might actually enjoy!” While that is still correct, young pupil, and I mean if you really are hell bent on eating fried chickpeas for the first time in your life and just decided to try them now, by all means be my guest! But the actual point I’m trying to get at is that college opens up an entire world of possibilities that high school didn’t offer. This is the perfect time to find yourself, try an intermural sport, consider Greek life, look at all the different clubs and organizations your school has to offer, this is a great way to make friends, and besides, you pay a lot of money to be there, you might as well take full advantage of everything you can.

THREE: KILLER PLAYLISTS

This one might sound a little silly, but hear me out. Music is motivation. The right song can but you into focus mode to study, beast mode at the gym, and make you want to relax when it comes time to unwind. When you have trouble getting into the mood you have to be in, whether you need to grind on that paper, or grind in the church of iron, having a playlist ready will make it all the easier.

So there you go. Three things every college students need that you won’t be able to make it with. It’s not the longest list, but it’s all-true. Have anything to say or add? Let me know! As always, thanks for reading!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
