If you are the type of person who doesn't get a chance to read over the school year, here are some books you should definitely check out over Christmas break. These books are sure to be conversation starters, thought provokers, and all in all a wonderful way to spend your downtime this holiday season.

10 Must Reads Over Christmas Break

1. Milk & Honey by Rupi Kaur

Milk and Honey is a beautiful poetic book about a woman who relives her traumas as a child and adult, coming to terms with them in four themed chapters. It's a moving book and a definite must read for anyone, especially young women.

2. Hallucinations by Oliver Sacks

Hallucinations by Oliver Sacks goes in depth on the stories of different people who have suffered from strange auditory and visual hallucinations. Oliver Sacks, renowned neurologist, takes psychedelic drugs in order to better understand his patients.

3. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

The Power of Now focuses on mindfulness and actualization of the present. This book is sure to change your perspective on how you see life and reality.

4. Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

Invisible Man is one of the most moving books I have read; it pinpoints the racism that existed within America at a time clearly and eloquently. Following the narrative of a young African American who suffers great discrimination. While this book is on the longer side, it is definitely worth the read.

5. Into the Wild by Jon Krakaur

Into the Wild is in touch with nature. It makes the reader yearn to explore and dive into the world of Christopher McCandless, who runs away from his life and responsibilities with little food, clothing, and money--living the remains of his life in wilderness.

6. Cradle to Cradle by William McDonough

If you are looking for an environmentally sustainable book to read over break, Cradle to Cradle is for you. It is an entirely eco friendly book that discusses the benefits of a zero waste lifestyle while critiquing the downfalls of our recycling system and industrialization. Bonus: this book is 100% down-cycled material (and it's waterproof).

7. Bluets by Maggie Nelson

Bluets is a book I found in the Strand in NYC. It focuses on a girl who falls in love with the color blue. This rather short read will stay with you for a long time, and opens your mind to the world of colors, as well as inside Maggie Nelson's mind.

8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

If you just want to curl up with a great memorable book this Holiday Season, read Prisoner of Azkaban. It sets a wintry vibe and will get you in the holiday spirit as well as rekindling your love for the world of magic and wizardry.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
