It’s 2015, and America needs someone new in the White House. Someone who is the best for the country. A person who is smart, honest, and a leader. And, most importantly, someone who likes to read books. Ladies and gentlemen of the free world, let me introduce you to the next president of the United States: LeVar Burton. That face you just made as if to say “Who the heck is that?” is completely normal; don't worry, I am here for you in this confusing time.
LeVar Burton is a hero to many, and he is best known for teaching America's youth how to read on the show Reading Rainbow. Do I need to explain more about why he should be president? LeVar Burton was born to American parents at a U.S. army base in West Germany--in other words, the guy supported our armed forces since day one! Burton also went to USC on a theater scholarship. If you do the math, a smart dude equals smart decisions, and smart decisions equals a smart country.
In 1983, Burton started hosting Reading Rainbow. 23 years and lots of long-term dedication to his job later (eight years as president will be easy) the show was cancelled. Before he makes his way to Pennsylvania Avenue, today, Burton resides in Sherman Oaks, California where, with any free time he has, he serves with the AIDS Research Alliance, a non-profit medical organization dedicated to finding a cure for AIDS. Geez, I wish I could fill out two ballots.
When introducing the Reading Rainbow app in 2012, Burton said this to CNN: “We have the ability to literally transform the way we educate our children.” I dare you to find another person in this country who cares that much about children, other than Jerry Sandusky. (Too soon?) So when you go to the polls on Nov. 8, 2016, make the right choice and write in LeVar Burton. But you don’t have to take my word for it.
