Be honest, how many times do you actually take a step back and wonder what is going through someone’s mind? It probably isn’t often, and that is because you can almost assume what goes through someone’s mind on any given day just by their body language, their actions, and their appearance. How someone carries himself or herself says much about who they are. For example, a boy who fishes is usually dressed sloppy, but this doesn’t make him a dud, rather, it makes him smart. It shows that he is a hard worker who is adventurous by willing to get down and dirty in the lagoon to find fish without ruining his good clothes. A girl who parties and is always determined to spend hours getting ready in order to look the best version of herself shows that she is constantly worried about what people think of her. The possible thoughts going through her head could be “Is that guy checking me out?” or “I’m going to drink my problems away because I don’t want to deal with them.”
Don’t get me wrong, these assumptions may be terribly off, but it is common that everyone views people a certain way by the way they carry themselves and the things they do. People who read are also assumed to be nerdy. However, people who read are harder to figure out, which makes them that much more interesting. Here are five reasons why people who read are unique, special, and worth getting to know:
1. They have an elaborate imagination.
2. They are open to experience life from different perspectives.
3. They are adventurous.
4. Their thoughts have many dimensions to them.
Reading makes people think. Therefore, communication with people who read is, more often than not, interesting. Conversations with readers can influence you to think more deeply and understand things more clearly.
5. They are good teachers.
Reading teaches people how to explain things by using the right words, therefore it allows for readers to be better communicators and teachers to those around them.
Rather than view people who read as “nerdy,” get to know them. People who read are incredibly intelligent, interesting, and thoughtful. You never know, a person who reads can help shape you into a better version of yourself.
