For some, March 2nd is any other day. For avid readers, it's a day to celebrate reading! It all started back in 1997 when a group within the National Education Association (NEA) decided that there should be a day to celebrate reading, and thus Read Across America was born in 1998, and it was chosen to be celebrated on none other than Dr. Suess's birthday!

So to help celebrate a worldwide day of reading, schools and libraries encourage children to read their favorite book and to share with others the joy that comes with reading.

The proper way to ring in the 21st anniversary of Read Across America would be to shed some light on the books that built my own foundation of education and the true passion for reading. Here are my absolute favorite books that I've ever read, from childhood to adulthood.

1. "Go Dog, Go!" by P.D. Eastman

2. "Marvin K. Mooney, Will You Please Go Now?" by Dr. Suess

3. "Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White

4. "Miss Nelson is Missing" by Harry Allard

5. "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" by Judi Barrett

6. "Blanca Nieves y Los Siete Enanitos" by Walt Disney

7. "Grandfather's Journey" by Allen Say

8. "The Stranger" by Chris Van Allsburg

9. "The Anybodies" by N.E. Bode

10. "Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen

11. "Adventures of the Bailey School Kids" by Debbie Dadey

12. "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis

13. "Eleven (The Winnie Years)" by Lauren Myracle

14. "The Kingdom Keepers" by Ridley Pearson

15. "The Name of this Book is Secret" by Pseudonymous Bosch

16. "The Lost Boy" by Dave Pelzer

17. "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury

18. "Roman Fever" by Edith Wharton

19. "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini

20. "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
