The animal world is incredibly amazing and filled with its rarities. A rare sighting of a pink hippopotamus was published and everyone was enamored with the animal. It’s simply because of its color that so many have been left amazed about the sighting. This isn’t the only time that the pink hippo has been seen. There are also reports of it being seen in 2010 and 2013.
The new photographs were taken by a French couple, Laurent and Dominique Renaud. They had heard about the rare animal and were set on finding him. They luckily spotted the pink hippo and took the photographs.
Many wildlife experts think that the peculiar pink skin is caused by leucism which is a condition where multiple types of normal pigments are missing and the animal is pink or white with possibly some small patches of dark skin but no pink eyes, which would signify albinism.
Leucism is also the same condition that white lions, white horses, and white pigeons have and unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in multiple types of pigment, not just melanin.
This can appear on many different animals but it is extremely rare on a hippopotamus.
Even though they are extremely rare, another hippo was spotted in Tafika Camp, South Luangwa, Zambia, Africa.
Many believe that the hippo that was spotted recently is the same pink baby hippo that was spotted in the area four years ago.
Many are worried that because of its rarity and because the couple that took the picture shared the location with the world, poacher may kill the animal for its skin but for now pink hippo seems happy and very healthy!
