It's that time of year again. Candy flowing from every direction, getting to dress up in costumes and of course Halloween movies. Everyone including myself anxiously waits all year for the chance for Disney to start their annual marathon and let the binge watching begin.
When Halloween rolls around hundreds of people that claim to be to cool or to old for Disney Channel lock themselves in their rooms and stare at their computer/TV screens for hours. I am prefacing this by saying this in my personal opinion and to each their own. Disney Halloween movies are sacred.
1. Hocus Pocus
The most beautiful and spooky piece of cinematic art to ever grace your television. This movie is clever, scary and fun all at the same time. This movie is the queen of all children halloween movies and you still remember almost ever scene. Nothing beats this movie. All I can say is I can't wait for the second one.
2. Halloweentown High
Somehow this movie was better than the 1st and 2nd for me. The new characters and the plot I found very enjoyable and who doesn't want to see their favorite film characters all grown up and trying to deal with basic teenage things and you know like being a witch and stuff.
3. Halloweentown
The classic, go to Halloween film. People camp out and mark their calenders waiting for this movie to return. Everyone wished they were a witch or lived in a place like Halloweentown after this movie came out. This movie is impossible to dislike. When you think of this movie you think of your childhood.
4. The Haunted Mansion
Oh Eddie Murphy how I miss you. One of the last cinematic masterpieces Eddie stared in before dropping of the raider. This movie still gives me shivers and I am a little hesitent to admit this movie actually scared me, well just a little bit.
This movie is what created my love for Disney Channel Original Movies. The "beef" between the little brother and older sister, the mastermind of a plan to get their mom out of house, the awkward teen relationships and of course the vampire date was enough to have me hooked. There was something so entertaining, but slightly scary about this movie. I couldn't and still can't get enough of it.
6.Phantom of the Megaplex
This is the most underrated Halloween film. This DCOM was exactly the right kind of mix between fun and creepy. Also, it didn't hurt that the main actor was very cute for my 10-year-old self. This movie commonly doesn't get the credit it deserves, because it has been overshadowed by bigger movie names, but don't let this deter you. I highly suggest you track this movie down somehow, sit back and enjoy it.
7. Twitches
Anything that Tia and Tamera Mowry did was gold. They were queens of the 2000's and everything they did was spectacular. Twitches was good, but not great. It got a huge boost in my ranking, because of them. The plot was a little hard to follow and the characters were underdeveloped if we are over-analyzing the film. I'll leave it with a wavering on solid ranking.
8. The Little Vampire
The main reason I enjoyed this movie so much and still remember it is, because of everyone’s favorite child star--Jonathon Lipnicki. The Stuart Little actor returned with another fabulous and adorable performance to be best friends with a vampire. Also, who doesn't want to watch a barn full of vampire cows flying around?
9. Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge
Honestly this movie was let down compared to the first film and was completely forgotten after Halloweentown High. When I think back on the films this one gets lost, because the others were so good. Also, it's not a Halloweentown unless the Cromwell family is all together and watching them split up wasn't the same as watching them kick butt together.
11. Now You See It
Another movie staring an early 2000's teen queen. This movie was good, but nothing like the films higher up on my list that I would rewatch over and over again. This film did give the gift of the Aly and AJ version of "Do You Believe in Magic", which will commonly come up on shuffle.
12. Twitches Too
Ugh. Sometimes I find this movie entertaining, but most of the time I just watch it to relive my childhood. Did not live up to the first film at all.
