The Troubling Theme Of Islamophobia In The Presidential Race

It’s just not funny anymore, not that it has ever been funny. The rising Islamophobia in this country is preposterous. The fact that actual candidates for the presidency of United States, are speaking out against an entire religious group of American people is terrifying. There have been so many problems regarding racism in the past year alone that it has never been more evident that we need a non-biased leader who is willing to publicly address and deal with racial concerns and disputes.

My heart breaks for Muslim children in America watching TV to see the ridiculous comments made by Ben Carson and Donald Trump when asked about theoretically having an Islamic president in office. Carson went as far as to say that Islamic politicians and candidates should be disqualified from the running. Disqualified, really? I didn’t realize that there was a referee in terms of the presidential race and who could throw a flag on the field at any time. He’s doing a terrible job. You know that it’s bad when your response is getting more bad press than Trump’s, Ben. As a member of a minority group yourself, I don’t understand how you could attack a different one. Every single child in this country should be able to go to bed thinking that they could be the president some day. Why the hell not? They could! At least that’s the way it should be. It infuriates me that Carson is not only discouraging the next generation of politicians, but an entire culture of American people from possibly pursuing and helping the nation for the good of everyone.

The question about having a Muslim president in office was and is entirely irrelevant to the current presidential race in the first place simply due to the fact that there are no Islamic candidates currently in the running on either side. This opens an even deeper issue. The interviewer asked this question not get information relevant to ideas about the actual future of our country in the upcoming four years, but to evoke a response from the candidates that he knew would be strong and ill-willed against Islamic Americans in order to light some sparks.

The running has become an entertainment form in itself with Mr. Trump tweeting shade at the other candidates and Hilary asking what emojis I feel about my college debt. It’s unprofessional. Call me old fashioned, but I just don’t think it’s proper for a president to be tweeting at me from behind a (soon to be confiscated for illegal information) computer. I’m not saying that the media needs to be left out of the race because that’s just completely unrealistic. The point that I want to get across is that no boss would ever hire someone who behaves like this on an application for any other professional job. When we vote, we as an American people are the bosses; please remember this when hiring your next president.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
