College can be one of the toughest times in someone's life. Between friendships, relationships, classes and work, there are a lot of things that are associated with college that make it an amazing, yet sometimes difficult time. Here's some quotes that every college student needs to hear.
1. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."- Mark Twain
It can be so easy to try to stay on the straight path and follow the crowd. Don't. Do what makes you happy. If that means changing your major (again), then do so! Because the only one that is going to be affected by whether you conformed to what was expected is you. You're going to be happy that you listened to your heart and did what made you happy when you're in your 40's. Dream big now.
2. "If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got."- Henry Ford
It's simple to go through the motions of daily college life. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to class, work, do homework, sleep and repeat. Don't let the four years pass by. If you're unhappy, then make a change. If you're doing the same routine, and you're unhappy, nothing is going to change until you do. Add in a hobby. Make time for yourself. Register for that class that you really want to take but doesn't fit in with your major. When you make the changes, then happiness will follow. But nothing can change if you stick to the same routine that you're unhappy with.
3. “If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”-Vincent Van Gogh
I won't lie, you will probably be told that you can't do something over and over again during your college years. People will throw negativity your way, but it's up to you to dodge it. Find positivity. This means going after the things that they say you can't accomplish. Don't allow them to crush the hopes and dreams you have. If someone tells you that the major you're in is going to get you nowhere in life, don't listen to them. Major in what makes you happy, and prove them wrong.
4. “Don’t say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”- H. Jackson Brown Jr.
It is easy to simply say that you're too busy. That's a college student's favorite line. But, you're never too busy to accomplish the things you desire to. Being a college student does not mean that you have to sign your life away. Make time for the things you love. If you want to make a change in the world, you can do so! Just because you're in college does not mean that you have no time at all. Everyone has the same amount of time available to them, it's just up to you to use it wisely.
5. “Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.”- Christian D. Larson
College can be overwhelming at times. Don't allow the obstacles to discourage you. You'll face many of them within these years. Everyone does. It's not about the obstacles you face, but how you choose to overcome them.
6. “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time."- Thomas A. Edison
Don't give up. Simple as that.
7. "Problems are not stop signs. They are guidelines."- Robert H. Schuller
We like to stop once we reach a problem. We see it as a sign that we aren't good enough, or we need to change paths. Problems are not stop signs. We don't have to stop in life, and chose a different direction all because we hit one obstacle. They are simply guidelines. They will help guide you to where you need to go, not make you stop and choose a whole new pathway.
The main thing to take away from this, is this--don't give up. College can be the best years of your life, as long as you are true to yourself. Major in what makes you happy. Take part in school activities that you're interested in. Be friends with the ones that better you. And don't let these years just pass by.
