Can we all get on the same page and admit for a moment that Kate Spade is the queen? The company boasts that it "empowers women to transform their communities through trade-based initiatives" such as entrepreneurship, technology and the arts. And you thought it was just a hot pink handbag in a store that smells like rich people. In fact, Kate Spade offers grants with the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty and motivating learners everywhere to boost their passion for entrepreneurship, film and other arts-based careers. I repeat, it is not just a purse. Take that, mom.

This company strives daily, motivating youths to pursue their dreams and work toward success and better conditions. How can you help? First, you must ask yourself if you are what every Kate Spade fan aspires to be.

Are you quick?

Are you quick because you're quick to judge others for their decisions?

Or are you quick to solve a crisis?

Are you witty with a comeback? Are you smart, and proactive in supporting your community?

Or would you rather race yourself to the couch for a midday nap?

“If one day the speed kills me, do not cry because I was smiling.”
― Paul Walker

Are you curious?

Are you curious enough to desire life-long education? Do you find yourself wishing for more time to study and grow?

Or are you curious who your boyfriend's been texting this week?

Are you passionate enough to learn multiple languages and connect with the rest of the globe in need?

Or are you too busy worrying about your picture that only got 200 likes, today?

"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious."

―Albert Einstein

Are you playful?

Are you playful because you travel with a purpose beyond the passport picture? Do you desperately hope to make a difference in the lives of those around you and grow more accepting of this world?

Or are you playful because your profile picture is a puppy dog Snapchat filter?

Are you active in your lifestyle, promoting health and vigor of the body? Do you appreciate the soreness you feel in the morning from a day well spent on hard work?

Or are you limiting yourself to drinking games and flirting with the guys who aren't capable of appreciating your willpower?

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

Mark Twain

Are you strong?

Are you strong enough to pack up your things and flourish where you're called? To rely solely on yourself for happiness?

Or are you looking for a partner to complete you?

Do you have the strength to turn the other cheek when challenged by your peers? To decide that what others think of you is none of your business?

Or does your strength come from your popularity?

"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and laughs without fear of the future."

―Proverbs 31:25

Kate Spade works hard to empower communities by empowering the women in it, not just to make them feel pretty. It's a far cry from $1 million in grant support, but you and I have the power to empower others daily. Act on the ideals you hope to attain, and the world will become a better place. Instead of posting minimalist/"chill vibes" posts on Instagram, get off your couch and place your hands into communities in need. They're waiting for you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
