11 Questions Everyone Has For Sorority Girls
Total Sorority Move

Sorority girls. They are a special breed in college culture. Often perceived as mysterious and sometimes confusing, sorority girls make many life choices that not everyone understands. Anyone who is not in Greek life has trouble understanding those who choose to walk in its ways. So I thought I would help reveal some of the mystery for you, and answer some of the questions everyone has for sorority girls.

1. Why do you call them norts and frockets?

Norts (nike shorts) and frockets (front pockets) are two staples of a sorority girl's wardrobe. We look for these things when finding what to wear and we get excited when we find norts or frockets on a comfort colors tee! That excited energy makes our minds move faster, along with our mouths. Hence, we don't waste time on pronouncing full words, but abbreviate to make cuter little nicknames.

2. What is it about frat guys exactly?

If we truly had a reasonable explanation for our obsession with letters on our men, I would tell you. But to be completely honest, what attracts us to frat boys are that (1) they are convenient because they are always nearby, (2) we all secretly dream of getting letters dropped on us, and (3) when we walk into a fraternity, we all kind of hope to find our very own Zac Efron chilling on the couch with his brothers.

3. Why do you show up to class in a super casual outfit?

Comfort and ease are our best friends. We must save our super styling powers for pin attire days and PR events.

4. ...But you always do your hair and makeup

Doing our face and hair makes us feel better about slacking on the outfit. Plus, comfy and cute can be passed off way better in a picture than just comfy.

5. Why do you spend so much money?

For whatever reason, this is the question people usually get bold enough to ask a sorority girl (#rude). While every Greek organization has fees associated with it, not every sorority requires a small loan of a million dollars. Actually, most sororities go the extra mile to ensure affordability and all member dues go to legitimate causes, such as keeping the lights on in the house, or paying for a PR advisement session from a professional who can help make your sorority the best it can be. Contrary to popular belief, we are not paying for friends. The friendships you make with your sisters are priceless anyways.

6. Is everyone really SO passionate about community service?

Yes! Philanthropy is part of a sorority's identity and every member is usually, at the very least, knowledgeable about their cause. Plus, it's kind of hard not to jump on the bandwagon of trying to save the world.

7. Did you join for the parties?

LOL – no. We ladies usually leave it up to the fraternity boys to get the party going. And while every sorority girl joins for a different reason, none of us stuck through it all just for the parties. That being said...I never heard of anyone's social life being hurt by going Greek. *wink*

8. How do you manage your calendar?

I don't. Lilly Pulitzer does it for me. Some people have a Bible and a religion. Sorority girls have a planner and Lilly.

9. Do you LOVE every single one of your sisters?

Let me just say this: every girl in your chapter is your sister at the end of the day. But as far as the beginning and middle of the day go...I would definitely prefer spending that time with some sisters rather than others. And that is normal and fine, as long as you keep an open mind during your time with them.

10. Is boxed wine really that good?

On a Monday afternoon? H*ll yes.

11. Is going Greek actually worth it?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
