8 Questions College Students Are Tired Of Hearing
Opinions

It may be almost a month into my summer vacation, but it seems that I am still thinking about college on a regular basis. Why is this, you may ask? Because no matter where I go, there seems to always be someone who feels the need to ask me various questions about college and my past school year. I know what you're probably thinking: maybe they are just being polite or are genuinely interested to know how your education is going? That's perfectly fine, but what isn't are the following eight questions I'm sure the majority of college students are absolutely sick and tired of being asked, especially during times such as the holidays or summer break when school is the last thing we want to have on our minds or discuss with other people.

1. Do you have a boyfriend?

No matter your age or gender, this question will most likely come off as the most annoying if you're a single college student. Being in a relationship isn't something I'm concerned about at the moment, but if that ever changes, I promise you'll hear about it. There's no need to interrogate me on a regular basis.

2. What's your major again?

It's not like I answer that question for you every time we see each other or anything...Oh, wait.

3. And just what kind of job are you going to get with that?

On some days, your guess is honestly as good as mine.

4. Wait, you don't want a six figure salary?

A huge paycheck may be nice, but the majority of people never seem to understand that I would much rather make less at a job that I love. (And in my field, a six-figure salary is somewhat nonexistent).

5. How do you balance school, work, finances, your mental health, social life, exercising/eating right, and sleep?

Here's the typical answer: I don't.

6. Are you going to be in debt because of student loans?

Why? Are you offering me a charitable donation?

7. Do you plan on going to grad school in the future?

Only one degree at a time, please!

8. Are you ready for next semester yet?

I just put one year of school behind me. Please wait a few months to question me about the next.

I know some of you, parents and older adults especially, may have meant well if you have ever asked a college student any of the aforementioned questions. But please don't take it personally if you happen to get an eye roll or an annoyed look in response. There's a good chance that he or she has already answered that question multiple times lately and would much rather discuss something else. Such as, if they are interested in coffee or food. I highly doubt they'll say no.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
