Halloween can be one of the most unique and creative holidays of the year. People become so inspired to dress up with complex, dreamy motives of becoming another person for a night or just for the simple reason of wanting to go trick-or-treating. Either way, the limitless possibilities of costume ideas are part of what fuel people's love for Halloween, and this year I have a creative costume idea of my own that I am proud of more than any other I've had.
For the record, I am not one that usually goes all out for Halloween. For the majority of my life, my creativity solely came with my words (with a few memorable costume memories over the years). When I was younger, I dressed up on Halloween for trendy parts of my childhood, like Hannah Montana and a Barbie fairy princess. As I got older, my favorite costume idea that felt inspiring and wonderful was my great version of Holly Golightly from the infamous "Breakfast at Tiffany's." As wonderful as that costume was, I am equally inspired about this year's costume idea as well.
This year, I have chosen to dress up as a queen for Halloween. Why, you ask? One day, back in August, I realized that my roommate and I share names with two of the greatest British queens of all time: Victoria and Elizabeth. The idea struck me as randomly as my brain usually works, but as brilliantly as a lightning bolt. I found my golden idea, and now all I had to get was a gold crown to go with it. I refused to accept the idea of a fake plastic crown with fake jewels when my look is inspired on a real queen with real substance.
Thankfully, when I went to Walmart with my roommate and her mother for Halloween decorations, I spotted the cutest golden crown headband and a golden mask to match that is pictured above. From the moment I saw the two items, I just had to have them for Halloween night. I even thought of a golden dress I could wear along with them, or perhaps even one of my cuter fall shirts if the weather freezes up. I knew my look was coming together then and there. My Halloween costume for 2018 will not be just a superficial one though.
I chose to be a queen because being a queen or calling someone a queen resembles so much more than outer beauty. Being a queen shows signs of strength that most of the women in my life have. My queen costume shows how much prouder I am of myself today than of who I used to be. I love and respect the many women in my life who are absolute queens in each and every aspect of my life, and I hope they are as proud of themselves as I am of my costume idea for this year.
