I am incredibly inspired by my pastor, Rick Warren. Pastor Rick is both relatable and knowledgeable. Pastor Rick is awesome because even if you are not a Christian, it's worth tuning into his services because he teaches life lessons that will allow you live a more fulfilling lifestyle. If you ever get the chance, check out www.saddleback.com. Pastor Rick runs Saddleback Church, a place that is welcome to people of all backgrounds. It is a place to heal, grow and learn. Pastor Rick is also an accomplished author. I highly recommend The Purpose Driven Life: What On Earth Am I Here For? This book helped save Michael Phelps (and many more individuals) fromsuicide.
A couple weeks ago, Pastor Rick shared four qualities "God Looks for in Your Life." I thought these qualities were very important and great to share. Yes, of course God looks for these qualities in one's life, but these are also qualities we should strive to live up to in our daily lives.
Here we go.
1. Integrity
As Pastor Rick says, "do not conform to the world." Especially in today's society where materialism, self-gain, and self-promotion are prevalent, it is important to remember to keep our morals and focus on loving and helping others.
"Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching."
2. Discipline
As Pastor Rick says, "just because you can, doesn't mean you should." It is important to control our ego (and appetite if we are talking about maintaining a healthy diet and workout regimen). Discipline pays off in the end.
"Discipline is the bridge between goal and accomplishment."
3. Courage
"Never follow the crowd in doing wrong, and don't be swayed in the testimony by the mood of majority." -Exodus 23:2
"Stand true to what you believe. Be courageous. Be strong!" -1 Corinthians 16:13
Courage is displayed when one is willing to stand alone for what is right. Courage goes hand-in-hand with integrity. Do not conform to the negative aspects in today's society such as gossip, bullying, or hate. Spread positivity and stand firm in your morals.
4. Humility
Humility is respecting everyone, especially those below you. Staying humble is key.
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less." -C.S. Lewis
