Are We Actually Baby Aliens?

Deconstructing the myths and theories surrounding the Great Pyramids.

Are We Actually Baby Aliens?
Victor Garcia

Most people who know me also know that I have a deep love for science fiction and fantasy, a broad and often random knowledge of cryptozoology, and an admittedly shallow fascination with outer space. These fascinations stem from a multitude of sources, among them, being my mother's intense belief in the power of Disney, my father's determination to marathon classic sci-fi movies with me whenever I was sick, and my constantly expanding army of younger cousins - many of whom enjoyed being told stories and then subsequently acting them out.

Such love for all things make-believe did not leave me as I got older; I often find myself staying up until the early hours of the morning watching shows such as Voltron, Supernatural, various Marvel series, and Buzzfeed Unsolved. I also spend far too long delving into the depths of the internet, swinging wildly between"researching" monsters and myths of old and delving into cold cases. In my late night, coffee-fueled explorations of what makes the world so mysterious, I seem to keep coming across the Pyramids as a point of contention, despite the fact that they have been studied and their history is written down by experts throughout the millennia - in what I thought was an indisputable record.

However, I continue to be astounded by not only the incredible amount of conspiracy surrounding the Pyramids but also by the impressively persuasive prose of the writers. Even knowing the actual history of the Pyramids (which is a fantasy epic that I will not elaborate on here), I found myself enthralled by the stories and theories presented in these articles, if only because they contained such interesting, unique, and often outlandish ideas.

In Conscious Connection's 2011 article, "Mysteries of Pyramid Technology," the author brings attention to multiple instances of ancient civilizations achieving great feats with seemingly impossible technology. In the article, the author also mentions that stonemasons, architects, and engineers from around the world agree that even with today's much more advanced technology, it would be impossible to recreate such precision, let alone even move such massive stone (many weighing well over 300 tons).

These massive constructs also share many similarities beyond their architecture in that most of them are astronomically aligned with constellations, especially that of Orion's Belt. Beyond this, the structures all appear to have religious purposes, from housing the gods (Pyramid of Kukulcan) to propelling souls to heaven (Giza Pyramids). This suggests a common connection to Orion's belt, a similar system of worship and/ belief that this constellation is the home of the gods. This common belief system, coupled with the incredible technology needed to create such structures, and the countless texts from people as renowned as Plato regarding an ancient and lost civilization, all point to a more advanced civilization being involved at some point in our development.

The conclusion that many people make from these various points is that these advanced people must have hailed from a great distance - the stars, to be more precise. Hence, readers and conspiracists come to the idea that we, humans, are merely the younger generation of a very ancient, very advanced race from space. The article concludes that gravity and time are the means with which our galactic ancestors use to give us room to mature and reach enlightenment as a species and that they are waiting to welcome us back.

Before any of my friends or family begin to fear for my sanity, let me say first that I am fully aware of (and actually did several projects last year on) the history behind the various pyramids across the globe. The point of me writing and acknowledging the above theories is specifically so that I can point out the faulty logic that prevails throughout so much of it.

There is first a false dilemma presented. Many of these websites, articles, and videos suggest that the only explanations for these structures having been built were that either the humans back then worked on them for several decades using only their own strength, or that aliens helped them. The article does not consider that people may have simply been more advanced than we initially thought, or that simple tools such as a lever or a pulley system might be used.

Another mistake that is often made by those attempting to justify these beliefs is that they make an appeal to authority. They site multiple experts, stating that master stonemasons, architects, engineers, and historians agree that the structures would have been impossible to create or even for us to recreate. The fact that experts agree (according to the author/ conspirators) does not make the claims made any truer.

There is next to an appeal to the masses. The article makes the claim that, because so many civilizations appear to have knowledge/ beliefs in regard to these extraterrestrial beings, then it must be true that they exist in some form or fashion. Little credence should be given to a claim simply because many people believe in it. This is how rumors started in middle school, and I would like to think that the educated masses have moved past such things.

Next, we have the appeal to ignorance. So many times, I have read authors claiming that we simply do not know how the pyramids were built, that we do not know the full purpose of these structures, that because we were not there to witness it, we cannot say anything with certainty, and therefore must concede that there may have been higher beings teaching and guiding the ancient people's work. This is yet another argument that absolutely floors me. Just because we don't have evidence against the assistance from aliens does by no means prove that aliens were there to assist. Such an argument reminds me of the t-shirts cheekily saying, "I'm not saying I'm Batman, but you've never seen me and Batman in the same room together." (Also, actual archaeologists, historians, Egyptologists, and multiple other experts have indeed provided answers to the above questions. The conspirators are choosing to forget that.)

From the above statements, I would like to provide my own theory; too many people in the world love to ignore the fact, ignore history, and ignore reason. The world is full of incredible, mind-boggling facts, mysteries, wonders, and stories. Why discredit all of the people who have worked so hard to uncover some of the mysteries and help explain the wonders of the world? Believe what you will, but have good reasoning behind your beliefs.

The internet, while fascinating, is not always right. Fantasy and science fiction stories and conspiracy theories are fun, but let us remember that they are, after all, merely stories and theories. We do not need outlandish theories that make no logical sense and follow no real protocol of experimentation or exploration to prove that the universe is much more beautiful and astounding than we can imagine. Look around yourself, and do some real research; maybe prove that aliens exist. Just make sure you have proper methods and logical arguments to back you up.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
