Puddles: A Rainy Day is Never Ruined

Splash! The droplets of water explode from the ground just to land on the asphalt again. The children are all dressed in there bright yellow rain suits. Complete with the plastic jacket that goes down to their knees while wearing bright yellow knee high boots. The human bananas did not let a rainy day get in the way of their fun. Hoping and playing in the rain. As the water came down like the dam broke. Turning the city streets into rivers. The children played and laughed.

The skies were dark and cloudy. The rain fell on this depressing day. Umbrellas up. The adults do everything in their power to stay dry. The rain makes everything worse! Your phone is going to get wet. Your wallet, purse or however one carry’s their money. Paper cannot get wet. It will ruin my clothes! Heavens no, I cannot have that! This is a day to stay in the office. In their black and grey business suits. Scoffing at the children that will get a cold. Where are their parents? They watched the children willingly incarcerated in skyscrapers.

The children’s cheeks hurt from the smiles they wear. Sliding down the sidewalk on a makeshift slip-n-slide. Soaking wet in the ecstasy of happiness and joy. Jumping and enjoying the rainy day. The perfect day the day that they were given, this day. The yellow rain suit were soaked through. Laughing and jumping in and out of puddles waiting for their turn sliding down the street.

Stupid rain. It ruins the whole day. Outdoor events get cancelled. No one wants to get wet. Traffic gets worst. The rain is the worst. But as long as the office in dry and the umbrella’s up to block the rain it is tolerable. But rainy days are the worst.

“One. Two. Three.” Skipping to the beat of his own drum a man dressed in a grey suit spread his arms wide. In an attempt the stay on top of the sidewalk curb like it was abalance beam. His grey business suit was drenched with heaven’s water. Hoping off the curb he smiles and waves at the children in the park. Wearing an ear to ear smile, “Hello there.”

“Hi mister,” a little girl waved back.

“What a beautiful day,” He exclaimed.

“Miser, don’t you know it’s rainy?” she asked him.

“Of course I do. That what makes it beautiful.”

“But I thought grown-ups only liked sunny days?”

“Well, little one every day is beautiful. We cannot control anything in this life.”

“But then why do the grown-ups hide when it’s raining?”

“Because, they what to control every little thing in this life. Once life get a little hard, difficult and or sad they run inside. Just because it’s raining do not mean that the day is lost… it’s only just begun. Life is not about control and getting your way. It’s about smiling and dancing in the rain…” The odd accountant ran off dancing his day away as the children watched the goofy grown-up look funny.

The adults also watched as the lunatic dance in the rain. Ruining his suit, ruining his phone and whatever else is in his pockets. He is ruining his own day. Hoping from puddle to puddle like some loony? Why I would never! The children continue to play…

Some odd years later…

Grace is nice and dry in her office. The water falls from the heavens like a fire hydrant exploded. The little children hoped and played in there puddles. They looked so small. She sat giggling at the little children. Thinking and wondering about the time she was that small. She recalled one day in the rain. When a weird adult talked to her and her friends. Knock, knock.

“Grace, here’s that file… what are you doing?” Her assistant came in.

“Look at the children,” she pointed and smiled.

“They’re all going to get colds. You’d think there parents would not let them play in the rain,” Her assistant was leaving her office when Grace said,

“Hold my calls.” Grace went outside in her high heels. Walking out into the rain and letting the water hit her face. She landed in the puddles felling that warm childhood feeling turning her insides into goo. “Hello there,” she waved at the children, “What a beautiful day!” She hopped and landed in a big puddle, splash.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
