I have been daddy's little girl since the day I was born. There is an unspoken and unbreakable bond that forms between a father and daughter, one that is impossible to understand unless you are apart of it. From the outside looking in it can seem like a girl who is simply close to her father, someone that will take her fishing and coach her sports teams while she grows up. Someone who will buy her anything because she's daddy's princess. The term ‘daddy’s little girl’ goes so much deeper than just the surface however.
Being a daddy's girl goes farther than using daddy's money or having him wrapped around your finger. Its about having someone to teach you to go out and change your own tire, how to bait a hook and how to properly shoot the ball so you never miss. Having a dad that also doubles as your best friend means always having someone to open the car door for you and never being without a valentine. It means going to father-daughter dances, learning how to fix a leaking sink and being able to change your own oil but knowing you always have someone to call that will come do it for you. Being a daddy’s girl means finding the one is that much harder. The bar has been set high and it’s going to be impossible to top how your dad treats you.
You know it will always be a constant battle between the boy you like and whether your dad thinks the same (because if he doesn’t then he’s probably out). When it’s time to spread your wings and explore the world on your own saying goodbye to the man who’s always been there is unimaginable. He’s no longer there to answer the door and scare off the potential dates or kill the spider you swear was the size of your hand. Being a daddy’s girl means missing him all the time but knowing that he taught you well enough to not only succeed on your own but flourish. He is always going to be a phone call away and you know he’ll jump on a plane in an instant if need be. There is nothing your dad wouldn’t do for you no matter how many stupid mistakes you make. No amount of miles between them breaks the bond a father and daughter share and for that I am forever thankful.
Here's to you dad, thank you for being the first man I loved. Thank you for always knowing what to say when I need some sense knocked into me. Thank you for coaching my sports teams and getting up early on your days off to take me skiing. Thank you for keeping my expectation so high and continuing to love me unconditionally. I wouldn’t trade our relationship for anything.
Love,
Your Little Girl
