Pro #1. You get to spend your birthday with all of your new and old college friends. With the new semester coming in, you tend to meet a lot of new friends in your classes who you can celebrate with. You also get to come back to all of your old friends from the first semester who know when your birthday is and would love to celebrate it with you!

Con #1. You narrowly miss your chance to have off for your birthday. Just an extra week or two and I'd be enjoying a paid-for dinner with my family at the Cheesecake Factory. Sadly we don't get that much time off, so instead, I'll be chugging energy drinks and trying to get the homework done that I definitely waited until the last minute to do!

Pro #2. You avoid the post-holiday blues because you have your birthday to look forward to.There's no doubt that after the holidays (that take us off school for a whole month), everything feels a little bit duller in comparison. The lights are all taken down and that holiday cheer just isn't there anymore. Luckily there is always your birthday to look forward to that will help to cheer you up during the post-holiday blues.

Con #2. A lot of your friends will be busy with sorority/fraternity stuff. With the start of a new semester, comes the start of rush weekends etc. A lot of your friends won't be able to celebrate with you on your birthday weekend because of this. It sucks but they'll come back to you in a few weeks!

Pro #3. It most likely will snow on your birthday! For some people, this might be a con but if you love the snow as much as I do. Growing up in Texas, it's hard to ever experience snow, so you better believe that I'm looking forward to experiencing it on my birthday at 'Cuse. It might be hard to leave your room in all that cold, but the view sure would be pretty!

Con #3. Your Christmas present is also your Birthday present.Sadly, there is no double the presents for me. Last year my present was actually being able to go to Syracuse because apparently paying for the enrollment was a "gift in itself". Anyways, for the next four years, I can be expecting half the amount of presents instead of double until the debt of going to Syracuse is finally paid off.

Overall, there isn't really a way to decide if having a birthday near a new semester and after the holidays is a good or bad thing. Either way, us Capricorns and Aquariuses make the best of the situation and enjoy our birthdays with the people who love us either at home or college.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
