Released July 6, Pokemon Go is taking the world by storm (at least, the parts of the world that have access to it). If you don’t know what Pokemon Go is, I’m not sure why you’re reading this article, but I’ll summarize it quickly for you: You get to be the trainer you always knew you were, physically traveling around your neighborhood and anywhere else you might wander to catch and train your Pokemon. Different Pokemon should be found more or less around their natural habitats (water Pokemon in bodies of water, Zubats in caves, you know) and local gym battles are a thing.
Sounds like a dream come true, right? Maybe. Still, I’ve compiled a list of pros and cons for Pokemon Go for anyone who hasn’t played yet and is considering it. Or just for the people who have played and know all of this to be true.
Pro: Making people actually go outside
Con: People not paying attention to what they’re doing and potentially putting themselves (and other people) in danger
Pro: POKEMON IN REAL LIFE
Con: IT’S NOT AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE YET.
^Every country without Pokemon Go right now
Pro: Getting exercise!
Con: People going to stupidly great lengths to get Pokemon
Also this one
Pro: Making new friends
Con: People are still looking at their phones the entire time.
Pro: Amusing screenshots
Con: It kills your battery and good luck finding a place to charge your phone in the Great Unknown (aka outside).
Pro: It’s available to both Android and iOS users. (Sorry, Windows.)
Con: Server issues. Sigh. But we can excuse this since it’s a new game. Unless it crashes when you’re about to get a rare Pokemon or you just dropped incense and then it’s inexcusable.
This screen is bane of every trainer's existence right now.
Pro: Escapism at its best
Con: Escapism at its best
When you want to play the new #PokemonGo app, but the server is down.-----
There you have it, folks. Just like everything in life, Pokemon Go has its ups and downs. I'm sure I missed a bunch, so leave a comment with other pros/cons! (:Also, if you do play Pokemon Go, please be mindful of your surroundings (especially if you're driving). Pokemon is wonderful, but not dying and not harming others is better.
