Before you, I would have never imagined the love I could feel for someone. You are the product of two of my favorite people in this world, but even that knowledge did not prepare me for how big of a part of me you would become. Even when you're crying your lungs out or being the all around gross kids you are, I love you more than you could know. So there are some things I want to make sure that you do know—when you are old enough to read this, that is.
From the very beginning:
I promise to try my best to get over my fear of changing diapers... but only when absolutely necessary. I promise to continue to be your teething toy, spit up rag, and all-around personal nanny. I promise to make sure you are the most fashionable baby anyone has ever seen. I promise to keep taking far too many pictures of you. And I promise to keep annoying all of social media with said pictures.
When you get a little older:
I promise to take down any little kid who thinks they can bully you. I also promise to play endless hours of dress up, go fish, and video games. And I promise to use ice cream as a bribe as long as you don't tell your parents.
When you get into your teenage years:
I promise to love you even when you have an attitude. I promise to be on your side when your parents are being "totally unfair." I promise to be a cool aunt but also embarrass you in front of your friends if you try me. But no matter what, I promise to be a reliable one phone call for when if you ever get arrested.
And throughout your entire life:
I promise that in this family, you will always be surrounded by people that love you, but if for some reason you forget that, I promise to always be there to remind you. I promise you that you lucked out in the parent department and I also promise you that this crazy family will sometimes drive you crazy. Don't worry, because I promise you that you won't be able to imagine one better.
