When you live in the same town for the first 18 years of your life, you don't get much of a change in surroundings. You're around the same people almost every day, so you eventually start to cling to a group of people. And these people become your best friends. They're the ones you share your development with. You share your secrets, your everything.
But as you grow with them, you grow away from them. Graduation comes, and suddenly you find yourselves falling in love with new places. Then fall comes around, and those new places become your home. You leave them behind—the ones that were always there for you.
Although we are all in different places, I promise y'all these things:
1. I promise to always answer your phone calls.
Whether it's while you're sitting alone in the cafeteria at lunch, or it's two in the morning, I will answer.
2. I promise to always keep your favorite snacks in my dorm.
I will always have french onion dip, code red Mountain Dew, spicy nacho Doritos, white cheddar popcorn, and cookie dough ready for when you come.
3. I promise to always text you when something dramatic on our favorite show happens.
Even if it's a show we've seen a thousand times, I'm still going to text you through the tears when our fav couple breaks up.
4. I promise to always remember your birthday.
Even if we can't be together on your birthday, I'll always remember.
5. I promise to always tell you when I go on a date.
Since you can't show up at the place we're going to eat to spy on us, I promise to tell you every little detail from where we went, to which pair of socks I wore.
6. I promise to always like your Instagram pictures.
Just so you remember that I exist. Every now and then I'll probably comment and tell you how "literally perf" you are.
7. I promise to never replace you.
No matter who I meet, no matter who lets me cry on their shoulder, no matter who is there through the break ups, no matter who goes on Spring Break trips with me, no matter what, I promise no one will ever replace you.
