Presidential Election 2k16

Viewpoints of a first generation Filipino-American woman.

Presidential Election 2k16
ABC News

It is now less than three weeks until we find out who will be the next president of the United States.

After watching three presidential and one vice presidential debate, I still stand by who I will be voting for. I am still with her. The actions and accusations placed against each candidate in between the debates has been ridiculous. From the release of more wiki leaks of Hilary to the footage of Trump admitted he sexually assaulted someone. I am still with her.

The president of the Philippines had also declared he will be "cutting" ties with America and become closer to China. Although he will still keep diplomatic ties with the US, he will seek a stronger relationship with China. This concerns me if Trump does become president. How will this affect the relationship between the US and the Philippines? Will policies become even more strict for people who want to leave the country to come to the US? Will US citizens become targets when visiting the Philippines? These are just thoughts that ran through my mind when finding out about the news. How would Trump handle foreign relations with countries Obama had strived to strengthen during his term? Will he abolish them or possibly make them stronger? His current track record with the republican party and a good amount of foreign leaders tell otherwise.

The behavior and actions performed by each candidate at each debate on and off the screen should be a good indicator as well. Do we want a leader who will interrupt during meetings that could influence the nation's policies and ties? Or would we want a leader who will listen, comprehend, and find a common ground? Do we want a leader who will throw a tantrum because it doesn't go his way and congress doesn't agree with him? Or do we want a leader who will still work hard to push bills? With what was discussed and said at these debates, actions mattered as well.

Respect of women in our society. As a Filipino-American, I have been taught to be pro-life but with personal experiences I am for abortion (under certain circumstances). As a woman, I want people no matter the gender to respect who I am. As a Filipino-American woman, I want to be able to walk out the door without my mom telling me I need to go change even though I'm completely covered up. Which leader will try to make sure women are equal? Which leader will influence our society to either respect or dehumanize women?

Although these are three points, there are many other aspects to consider when placing your vote on November 8th (or is it November 28th). The millennial can have a huge impact on this election if they decide between Hilary and Donald. This election will affect our present and our future.

Please research, discuss, and vote.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
