Preparing For Start of College Life

After moving in, I felt right at home, but I find myself missing my family I love dearly. Moving in really set the college mood and I am enjoying the college experience so far. I have more freedom and I am making new friends on the first and second day. I am having the time of my life so far and the freshmen are just as friendly as hoped. I have yet to meet the professors, but once I meet them and have been to several classes, I will settle right then and starting off smoothly.

I am a freshmen once again. Sure I am intimidated, but very excited. This week long orientation is really occupying my time and mind off of the normal homesickness everyone feels when away from home. I miss being at home with my family, but it is time to start my adventures. Everyone was nervous yesterday, but after moving in, everyone started connecting left and right. Everyone is coming together and I am already proud to be a Hanoverian Panther. I hope to make great decisions for my education and for the Hanover Community.

So far, I am trying to make the best of my college experience, while doing so responsibly of course. I am getting out of my shell more and more each day and making new friends and still meeting people. I am meeting so many people, and it's making me more comfortable. The freshmen here are kind and respectful of each other and their dreams. I feel like we are connecting with one another off the bat and that will help as we start this journey together for the next four years.

We have only started one class and the work has started to pile up. It's different here, because the syllabus is more important than it was in high school. The syllabus has a schedule of every day of the term and when papers, homework, or other work is due. We are being taught to keep an eye on the syllabus and it will help us succeed, while keeping everything organized and simple. As long as we show up to class, keep updated on special dates like exam days, and do the work assigned to us, we will do well in college.

I hope to make many friends, one thing that I have missed out on in high school. I have a feeling college will be more exciting, more thrilling, and more fun than regular school. I hope to be the best student I can be. I hope to be more than just a student. I want to make an example for my Hanover Community. But I am getting out of my comfort zone to meet people, one thing I have always struggled with. I was always shy and by that, I didn't have many friends before college. This time, I am going to be more open and more outgoing and most of all, to be myself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
