Republican, Democrat, Tea Party or no party at all we have all faced the realization that America is headed down a path we may never make it back from. What can we do at this point? Pray! Pray for the elected officials already in office, pray for the candidates who may soon take office and pray for the voter who helps put these people in office. Sometimes we feel helpless seeing as the problems of this nation are far greater than us and it seems we cannot do anything. We can. Although you may think the prayer of one person cannot turn this nation around, I urge you to look at it another way. The creator of this nation hears the prayers of all his people and has the power to heal, strengthen and renew it.
So I urge you to take just a moment and say a prayer for our lost and fallen nation.
Dear God,
I know I am one person, and although I feel I cannot change the world, I know you can. It was you who created this place in six days and gave it life, for that I am so grateful. I know that I sin and fall short of your Glory daily but I am constantly reminded that your love and mercy saves me.
Today I come to you knowing that through you all things are possible. I pray for my fallen and broken country. I pray you place your hand over it and help heal it. Your plan may be unclear to me and to others but I know you have constructed a master plan that is not for me to understand.
To all of the troops fighting for this nation, I pray You give them peace and power. Peace in their hearts with you and power to overcome the obstacles they face daily whether on the battlefield or when returning home. Lord, I pray for their families. Families that have lost a loved one or ones that send a loved one for months even years to fight for the freedom I take for granted. Let all that these brave men and women have done be done in hopes of a better future for this nation. Let them lay their burdens on you and also remember to praise you in the good and the bad.
As I remember these brave men and women who are putting their lives on the line, I pray for the officials making this call. Lord, I pray you give them wisdom and guidance. Let all of their decision making be done with the greater good of this nation in mind. Allow them to see the needs of the people in this place and do everything in their power to meet them. More importantly, though, I pray they keep You in mind and how a nation without You is one that will never see repair.
I also want to remember your people Lord. As they have decisions to make regarding who they may vote for in this upcoming election I pray they turn to You. I pray they look at every candidate and ask this question, "Will he/she exemplify You in the work they have before them?" As these people prepare to make decisions that will effect the country I pray they are educated and knowledgable. Let them turn to you if the answer is unclear and you will lead them.
As for the candidates who may one day sit in office governing our country, I especially lift them up to you. As they may get the chance to rule over your people here on earth I pray they know you reign over all of the nations and it is through You they should rule ours. Let them never be ashamed or afraid to use Your name or call upon Your name. Give them the strength to stand up to those who deny You. Give them the courage to never back down from those who are waging a war against You, your people and this country. As they take on such a huge responsibility they realize their strength comes from you, without you they will fail.
Finally Lord, I thank you for you mercy and grace. For the many blessing You have bestowed upon this country. Thank you for your forgiveness as we all are in need of it. I pray you watch over, protect and heal this country I call home. I will praise you through the good and through the bad for You are Lord of all. I pray all of this in Your precious and Holy name.
