Through the times where I am ecstatic about the gifts the Lord has given me and also the times where I am feeling down and asking myself, “why is this happening to me?”, I have always turned to prayer.
By no means am I pushing my religion on anyone, but I think that prayer is the most beautiful thing there is. There is so much power in taking a few minutes, even second, to say your prayers to the Lord. Sometimes, you’ll see great results right away, other times it’s gradual, or maybe you’ll get the answer “no” but get to experience something in store that is much greater in the future.
The power of prayer became evident to me on a Thursday night. My youth group was serving at the local Feed My Starving Children. This is a program where people in the community can come together to package food that will be shipped out to other communities struggling with starvation throughout the world. But with that comes health standards. Without thinking, I placed all of my jewelry, including several pieces that my family has given me, into a small plastic bag.
After a day or two, I realized I had no clue where I placed that small bag. I tore my house apart looking for the bag of gifts my family has given me over the past years and was in complete hopelessness.
That’s when I decided to turn to prayer. I said a quick prayer to God to guide me to find the bag.
Right when I opened my eyes, the bag was right in front of me. As if it came out of nowhere.
That’s when I realized how powerful a quick prayer can be. For anyone who follows a religion, having faith and trust in the Lord you believe in will come in and help you.
Even if it is for something large, such as a prayer to help someone sick. Prayer will help. My grandpa fought his almost 7 year battle with cancer and he said it was because of prayer. Once he passed away, my family and I knew that our prayers put him in a good place.
Even if there isn't an immediate answer or the answer is no, the Lord will not just leave you hanging with nothing. The Lord sometimes has a strange way of working. When the answer isn't immediate, know that He is forming some great result that will result in your gratitude and thanks. But if the answer is no, remember that He does not want you to have the short end of the stick. Something better is just around the corner.
My point is, although it may seem silly to sit and talk to someone that doesn’t even verbally respond, it is a great gift. It is the closest thing we have to magic. No matter what hardship you are going through, or even if you are in a spot where life is perfect, prayer will always be there as a backbone. It’s been proven through all the miracles people have had for centuries. So I encourage you to close your eyes, reflect, and pray to the Lord our Savior.
