Let me rant for a second...
There is no such thing as a terrible life. There is no reason to say “FML.” Whether you’re a believer in Christ or not, your life was created for a reason. Everyone has a purpose in this world. I thought otherwise a few years ago. Back in high school I would beat myself up over the silliest things. Whether it was during the school day or at a volleyball game, I would get so upset with myself. It was incredibly rare for me to be in a great mood. I would tweet the cliché, depressed quotes every day. People I talked to at school would tell me that they hated following me because they hated that I was always so down. After this, I began to find myself and find a reason to be happy. I started to actually value my life, even with every rough patch I had gone through in life so far.
Now, let's get a little personal...
A few years ago, I decided to change my life for the better. I attempted to slowly look on the brighter side of every situation. I learned from my own and others mistakes. Even though I paid a lot of attention to other situations, I tried to focus more on myself and didn’t share my opinion as often. This caused me to learn to ignore the ignorance of others and focus on bettering myself. I began to care a lot more about my grades in school, valued my friendships and got rid of those that were toxic for my positive lifestyle that I was trying to achieve. I smiled a lot more. Smiling is incredibly contagious, so I began to hang out with those who made me happy and didn’t upset me. I broke off negative relationships left and right and I still do to this day. Because I made all of these brand new decisions to better myself I began to have more motivation. I wanted to do more, be social, try harder to succeed at anything and everything, etc. By being positive and laughing during the worst times, I grew up. Thank God.
Positivity is important
I believe that positivity is such an important characteristic that every person should have. As I said before, it provides you with so much more motivation, you work harder at everything, you want to do more and you’re overall happy. You can never be too happy and you can never be too successful at everything you set your mind to do.
How I stay positive
1. I surround myself with positive people.
Negative people are only going to put you in a bad mood. Negativity is contagious and positivity is too! Choose wisely who you spend your time with.
2. I get more sleep.
I don't know a single person that wakes up in a good mood if they've slept for only a few hours overnight. I have to get at least 8 hours, otherwise I cannot function at all. If that happens, I'll get frustrated if I break my schedule/motivation.
3. I make time to do the things I love.
I go the the gym in the morning, hang out with my friends in my free time, and I also value my "me time."
4. I motivate myself to do the best I can.
Whether it's related to school, sorority, family/friends, or whatever, I always try my hardest in any situation. Half-assing everything will get you no where.
5. I know my value.
Having friends and family members taken from us too soon has truly taught me the value of life. I understand that there are so many people who care about you, no matter if they show it or not. I know that I have a lot of potential in this life that God gave me, so I'm taking advantage.
Positivity really can help
Living a positive life has helped me grow and helped me learn so much about myself and others. I hope others can do the same. I hope to motivate others to live a carefree life and to smile when possible. Positivity and smiles are so contagious. So, go outside, get some fresh air, do something that makes you happy, and spread the love! Life's too short to do anything but that.
