Before you continue to read this article please note that I by no means intend to offend anyone with my opinion. I am not writing this to wallow in sadness but to help spread hope to many Americans. I did my research, I voted, and I suffered a major disappointment. What's done is done, it's time to keep our chins up, and like all things in life: move on.
A negative energy has been thrust upon many people (me included), and frankly I'm sick of it. With democracy, comes risk. This right to vote people have fought for has given us the ability to elect people like Donald Trump, we have to respect that. And let's look at it this way: it's four years. In reality, that's a very short amount of time.
If there's one thing I respect about Trump it's that he loves America. He may love it a little differently than I do, but he still has a fiery passion for this nation. I truly believe he has good intentions for this country, even though we may not agree on how he goes about making it greater (because if I do say so myself, America was already pretty damn great).
To my pro-Trump friends: I am scared. And I'm a white socioeconomically stable citizen. I can't even fathom how our LGBT+ community, Black community, Muslim community, female sexual assault victims, etc. are feeling at the moment. We just gave a high tempered and impulsive racist accused of sexual assault the most powerful position in the nation. Please try to understand where we are coming from, and instead of saying our protests are because we "didn't get our way" or because we're "pouting," let us use our voices to express our fears peacefully.
So here's to the next four years, America. I truly believe great things are in store for our country.
