Pros And Cons Of Your Birthday Being On Election Day

November 8 - the date that no American can escape from hearing. Basically every single day we are reminded of that day, what's happening on it and and why it's so important. At this point, that day is so associated with election day that it's the first thing people think about when they hear or think of that day.

Well, for some people anyway. For others, like myself, we first think of the fact that it's our birthday. But getting to vote for the next president of the United States on your birthday is pretty awesome, right? Eh, not completely. Here are the pros and cons.

Pro: There’s a countdown to your birthday.

Sure, there's always a countdown for holidays like Halloween and Christmas, but how many people can say that there's a countdown for their birthday? (Well....besides the people who have a birthday on those holidays...) But still, it's pretty convenient to hear a countdown almost every day for 100 days. Actually, now that I think about it, this is kind of a con too.

Con: Most people are not looking forward to it.

Although there’s a countdown, it’s not like it is for holidays where everyone is super excited. Not as many people are going around saying, "Oh my gosh, I just can't wait for November 8! I'm so excited!" And if they are, it's most likely because they can't wait for the day to be over with already. And while it's still a con, I can't blame them for feeling that way plus I actually agree.

Pro: Voting on your birthday is pretty cool (especially if it’s your first time.)

Having the right to vote is an amazing thing that we shouldn’t take for granted, even if we don’t like the people we have to choose from. So the fact that I get to do this, and for the first time, on my birthday is awesome.

Con: The options.

Okay so not everyone would agree with this, but it's also safe to say that a lot do. I mean seriously, so may people are, to put it lightly, disappointed in our two nominees. So while having the ability to vote is awesome and something all Americans should do, I have to admit, this is definitely not the most exciting election to have your birthday on.

Con: You're probably going to want to avoid social media that day.

Don't get me wrong, I'm completely aware of the mess social media has been for over a year now. But even though there's been no way of escaping all of the political posts for quite some time now, the worst has yet to come. And it all begins on November 8.

Hmm...well, look at that. There's more cons than pros. I guess your birthday and election day being on the same day is even less awesome than I thought. Oh well, at least it's going to be over with soon.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
