Being Positive Transforms Lives

From day one when we are born, all those around us are positive and happy. As babies, we all feed off of this energy; smiling and giggling brings joy to all those around. When we grow up there are little things that keep us from smiling like we did when we were kids. The stresses of college or school and the unknown future are sometimes overwhelming but if we remember one thing, happiness will always find its way back into your life. Just remember that positivity breeds happiness.

Staying positive is sometimes hard, but if you have a few simple tools in your arsenal, there is nothing that can stop you from being happy.

1. Surround yourself with positive people who won't bring you down.

When you surround yourself with people who make you happy, you are more likely to be happy yourself. Sometimes those around know you better than you know yourself, so in times of need look to them. These positive people who impact your life on a daily basis will help you to become a positive and happy person.

2. Smile constantly.

Being conscious of when you are smiling will help to trick your body into thinking you are happy. Smiling, in my opinion, is a sure-fire way to make yourself happier. When you smile, people will see the changes in your personality: the way you do certain things and the way you carry yourself overall. When you let the world see your beautiful smile you are sure to get some smiles back.

3. Be spontaneous.

Don't have any plans for the day? Pick up your favorite book and go to the beach, go visit grandma, or even take your dog for a walk. Don't wait for people around you to make plans, be spontaneous. When you don't wait for things to happen, your life will not pass you by. It will be full of adventures and happiness.

4. Love unconditionally and fully.

Show those you love that you do each and every day. No matter how small the gesture, show them. Love others the way you want to be loved. Whether they are your family, friends or significant other never fail to tell them each day how much they truly mean to you. When you give others the gift of love, you are sharing your happiness and positivity.

5. Count your blessings and be thankful.

When you think about how unlucky you feel at certain times, just remember that there are always reasons to be thankful. Everywhere around you blessings are hiding. Be thankful for the alarm that goes off in the morning, because it means you get to live another day. Be grateful that your grocery bill is expensive because it means you have enough money to feed your family. There are small things all around you to be thankful for. When you realize that you can be grateful for the little things you will be happy and be able to stay positive.

When you are positive and keep in mind these five tools throughout your daily life there is no reason why happiness cannot fill your soul. Remember that positivity breeds happiness!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
