Disclaimer: When I say today's pop music sucks, I don't mean our generation's pop music. I don't mean this decade, or even five years ago. I really mean today. Like, last year's music was better than today's.
Someone, somewhere, has to agree with me.
Here's why:
1. Every other song is that weird electronic beat.
Yeah, this one irks me the most. It's frustrating how pop used to be actual singing, and now it is, I don't even know what to call it...awkward dubstep with talking? The hard beat is for the rap station, kids.
Which leads me to my next point...
2. Barely any pop artists actually sing anymore.
Seriously, you can't deny this. They are mostly wannabe rappers. I know that you are able to come across two or three pop songs with actual singing, but for some reason, it is trending among pop singers to have their voice severely dubbed. The majority of these pop singers have very good voices, but they don't use them to their fullest potential.
3. They're all about the same thing.
Being in love or breaking up. Yeah yeah, we get it. No one cares. When you don't actually sing with heart and feeling, the song means nothing. It's tough to express your deep feelings through soft murmuring.
4. The genre is slowly becoming less and less popular.
Remember, like, two years ago, when everyone knew the hottest pop song? I remember super-cool-Chad-who-only-listens-to-rap from high school knew Taylor Swift's song, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Yeah, you do too? Well, what's the hottest pop song now? Exactly. Since they are all so similar and odd at the same time, no one is paying any attention to it.
5. That one song that does get popular never goes off the radio.
That song you hear that makes you want to rip your hair out? Yeah, that's a pop song. The radio says something like, "This song has been trending number 1 for 34 weeks!!!!!!!!" and you instantly cringe.
What I'm trying to say is, music is an art. Today's pop singers are brutally murdering this art. By listening to Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap, Gospel, Christian, even Country, they are doing what their genre does best.
@ Pop music..... please stay in your lane and go back to the actual good hit songs. Thanks.
