I know I am not the first person to say it and nor will I be the last, but Politics are BORING!
With the elections coming up, politics have become a hot topic. No one individuals views are the same, and this causes endless Facebook posts, arguments, and debates between once friends. So here is where the problem lies. Some people enjoy politics and everything to do with it, while others not so much. I however, feel very differently. I hate everything to do with politics, they make no sense to me. So with voting coming up, especially one as important as the presidential election, I have to stay informed.
My biggest issue is that I do not understand the endless articles I see posted all over Facebook and other social media sites. I try to read them, I really do, but whenever I do I find myself looking up words, skimming paragraphs, and “nodding off” while reading. So the next logical conclusion is to read the news articles intentionally watered down for the less political folk. Problem is, then we lose the truth of what was originally said. That is not to say that politicians are in any way truthful. As aforementioned, everyone's views are different. So when one person simplifies an article they do it in such a way that it almost becomes biased toward their opinion. So then while I am reading something I understand, I am also losing the original message. What the politicians themselves are saying is an important aspect in allowing the voters to learn who they really are voting for.
My tactic has become to share posts from all angles. I either choose to share nothing or I will post something that doesn't choose any specific side. Then I wait for people to comment links to other articles that fit with their views. I then, attempt to read the ones posted by the people I have found I agree with in life. This may not be the best idea because it can cause problems of its own, as I have seen, however it's they way I have found to educate myself in such a way that, when I vote, I can do so in such a way that allows me to do it with confidence.
So therein lies the next problem; my voting, my choosing a side. Am I making things worse in a world of politics already headed down the path of destruction? By choosing to vote, no matter how confident I feel about it, I am still uneducated. I may not be entirely so, but for the most part I am. I do not understand the things I read and try as I might, I do not have the brain for them.
So am I, by voting, making things worse?
I may choose the one I feel best suits my views, but none of my options are great and I have no real way of knowing if I am in fact making the right choice for the country.
Politicians choose the bigger words, the more confusing ones, to throw us off the lies they tell. So when someone comes behind and gives us the thirty second recap we want, we lose the important stuff. Thus making it all truly impossible to understand. Even more so for the people who don't have the mind for politics.
So am I making the right choice, in whom I vote for, and even in my choice to vote? I do not know, but for now it will have to do.
I will try my hardest to keep myself as educated as I can be, and all I can do after that is cross my fingers that the choices I make are the right ones. The same goes for you.
