A couple of years ago I was asked to write a poem to perform at my brother's 10 year wedding anniversary. This poem means a lot to me as well as my brother and my sister in law. Anyone can get married. However, making it last and work is a completely different story.
10 years
One million twenty-five thousand one hundred ten words in the English vocabulary,
Yet still not one describes how much I love you on the contrary
I could use every letter every word
Although it'd take a while,
but really it'd just be stalling longer
To see your perfect smile
I could go back to the first day,
The first touch
The first anything
How could I forget
My heart beating so fast it was killing me
It's at moments like these
The test of character, confidence within
It wasn't all that easy
To be sure your heart I'd win
But fast forward to now
Looking in your eyes
Your eyes in mine
I'm glad the effort was there
No matter how much work,
Or how much time
Just to be sure through the last 10 years
I'm glad,
To call you mine
