When I was younger, I used to wish I was a boy. Of course, when I was younger I was a tomboy. Now, I am proud I am a woman. Women may have a tough time with being seen as equal and obtaining equal pay. As an English major as well, I feel the urge to express myself via poetry, fiction and etc. So I wrote a poem that I think shows every female what they are capable of, being a warrior.
I wrote this poem as a response to a comment I saw online somewhere about how women could serve in the military because they were "too emotional" and "need men to tell them what to do." I don't know where that man grew up but I do know that women do not need a man and are perfectly capable on their own. I grew up with some strong women and some of them are in my family. I know strong women and I admire them. So here's to the females.
Battle Tested
Woman
Hurled as an insult
But is the weapon I wield
Armor, my skin and fire, my blood.
My voice is thunderous, my grin made for war.
I have daggers in my sleeve and a warrior in my heart.
I may burn to ash but like a phoenix
I rise
