You're sitting in your afternoon lecture with your smartphone placed upside down on the corner of the desk. It's on "Do Not Disturb" mode.
The syllabus reads, "Absolutely NO cellphone use permitted during class," but you're thinking one quick peek is not a crime. You've sat through 25 minutes of slideshows without checking it once. So what do you do?
Well now there's an app that will reward you when you don't use your phone during class.
Even better? The app is launching on Temple's campus this semester.
Pocket Points has had success stories at 15 college campuses across the nation including ASU, Boston College, and Penn State and plans to expand to over 100 schools this semester.
It was developed by a student at California State University.
The concept behind the new app could not be simpler. All you have to do is open up the application, lock your phone, and start racking up points. The app can tell when you are in a campus classroom. The longer you go without checking your phone, the more points you earn. These points are then turned into awesome discounts at both local and online businesses. Is that not the coolest concept EVER?
The app has a "Gift Page" and an "Exclusive Deals" tab. These are where students can browser their discounts and find exclusive deals.
Pocket Points not only gives students an incentive to pay attention in class more, but also promotes the growth of local businesses.
Owners benefit every time Pocket Points exposes students to businesses within the area.
Participating businesses include Jimmy Johns, Insomnia, Starbucks, and Cold Stone Creamery plus a ton more!
It's an all around completely genius idea.
Pay attention and you'll pay less, Owls!
