You never want the last thing your friends hear that night is not the car radio, but your flatlining in an ambulance. Or the sirens of the police cars behind you, or the screams of your passengers as they can't move in the back seat of your mangled car.
As "dramatic" as that may sound, it is all to real, and serious. Never say never.
You never think that it’ll be you, that bad things like getting in a car crash would happen, but life doesn’t work like that.
Everything you value you put into serious jeopardy when you drink and drive. It’s nothing to joke about, it’s nothing to mess around it to put it simply.
And while we’re on this topic, let's clarify that buzzed drinking is still drinking and driving—it is against the law.
There is so much fun to be had that does not involve getting in a car while intoxicated and driving. Call someone, walk there, be sure to have a backup.
There are many things in life that we may do that could be considered stupid, but we as college students have an excuse. Though, let's not get being young and dumb mixed up with being just plain stupid. If you haven’t thought of it this way, every time you drink and drive, you put every single person on the road in danger. Families can be destroyed, lives can be perished, or forever turned upside down. Unless you missed health class from grades six and on, you know better than this. It's plain and simple and no excuse for it.
Drinking and driving kills people every day, and will continue to. There is a simple answer to prevent this ... call a friend. When it comes to this, these rules are not meant to be broken. They are put in place to keep everyone safe. In a world these days where people take laws as rules to be broken, I beg you to please rethink this one especially. Do not drink and drive.
Yes this is college, and you can be offered drinks literally at any time because let's face it we all have a friend or two that starts drinking at three o'clock on a Wednesday. If you do happen to get offered a drink, you have one of two options, deny it or take it but make sure you have a way of returning home. You're putting more effort on yourself to get home than to simply find someone to help you out.
I suggest you create a schedule with all of your friends meaning each week someone takes a turn being sober. Or make sure that there is always someone on call if you do not have a ride home. If you can’t find friends that are willing to do this for you, well, to put it bluntly, you should get new friends.
