Who doesn't love to order a good pizza? So many toppings, so many stuffed crusts, and by the end of the night, so. many. boxes. Pizza Hut is thinking outside of the pizza box by launching a test run in Hong Kong. They deliver pizza in their regular boxes -- which project movies. Yeah, you read that right. All you need is a smartphone (because who doesn't have those, nowadays) and just good taste pizza. Here's how it works.
Of course, first you make your order. The magically genius people at Pizza Hut will include a lens with your pizza. Don't worry, it's not touching all the cheese you're about to dig into. Each box comes with something called a pizza table, which not only holds the lens in place when the deliciousness is delivered to you, but has further use later. Once the pizza gets delivered to you (effectively making you the most ecstatic person in the world) you can punch a hole in the side of the box which will be indicated. Just take that lens and fit it right through the hole. Also on the side of the box will be a scan code, so do all that schmancy stuff with your smartphone camera and get that scanned. Once it's been scanned, you can place your smartphone right at the center of the box with none other than the very same pizza which was holding the lens. This is where the fun really begins.
Because science is awesome (cue Bill Nye), the lens will magnify whatever is showing on your smartphone screen. Ba-da-bing-ba-da-boom, you can now project a movie right from your food. Of course, the last step is to stuff your face.

Some of you may already be watching Netflix on your flat screens, or with your laptops and tablets. Therefore you may be wondering -- what's the point of this? After all, the quality of this must seem like a long shot from the projectors that get used today and from the retina screens and sha-bang of today's technology. However, the most redeeming and priceless quality about this little adaptation to the pizza box is its pure creativity. Have youever even imagined something like this? Pizza and movies go together like bread and butter. The pure innovation of this must be appreciated.
What this pizza box also does is give us a little reminder of the times we now refer to as "way back when." If it's using a smartphone, how does this make sense? Call me poetic, but using a smartphone to create the experience of something like a drive-in movie is something truly artistic. Pizza in itself is a work of art, why not put some theatrics in with it?
While this is only being test-run in Hong Kong at the moment, we can only hope that it gains support and spreads throughout the world. In the meantime, we will be amicably envious who have access to this box and applaud those at Pizza Hut who not only bring us delicious food, but now amazing entertainment.
Talk about redefining staying in for the night.
